Default Racing Gear ...

Hello All,

Going to race track with my 06 C6 A6 Z51 in Sept - Just for "Tracking".

Need a Helmet. Should I get one with or without chin suppot? Any Brands? Any opinions on G-Force?

Would like shoes and gloves as well. Not a big fan of race gloves. They take away the "feel" of your hands. Does any one recommend using batting or Golf gloves? They fit a lot better and have a much wider range of sizes.

Thanks.

I took mine to a two day event no need for gloves or shoes IMO

$60 open face from bike shop worked great for me

I've never used gloves before, so I can't help there.

As far as shoes, my son bought me some Piloti's for my b'day, I really like them and they weren't too expensive.

Some people may scoff at it, but I bought a full face helmet off of Ebay for around $80. It's made by THH of Korea and fits great. Just make sure it is a Snell 2000 rated.

Need a SA2005 helmet. Do not get a motorcycle helmet as those may not pass tech.

G-force is a good inexpensive brand. I use a G-force full face helmet with eye shield.. Full face is preferd as things tend( or will) to fly into your side window and hit you in the chin or eyes. Yes you must drive with windows down.

Had a major object fly into my drivers side window and hit me on my chin gaurd once. If I did not have a full face helmet it would have broken my jaw.

Bell M3 is a very popular model too.

Do not use open fingered gloves. I used the thin Mechanics Brand gloves for a long time. Gloves help from preventing getting blisters. You dont need gloves but a good idea. Get RED or Orange, not black.

Your hand will be out the window once in a while and the RED and Orange gloves are easy to see vs the black.

Shoes, any thin soled tennis showewill work just fine. The thinner the sole the easery it is to feel the gas peddle.

If you get driving shoes try them on first and get medium to high top with some way to keep the strings out of the way.

Let us know how much fun you had when you get back.

also over under General Corvette - Autocross & Roadracing is where all the track guys hang out

Bell full face Helmet, Simpson hood, firesuit, gloves, and boots. The helmet protects your head from knocks, the rest protect you from fire. (The safety crew has had to put me out more than once in my racing career, but I've never been seriously burned thanks to Nomex.)

Don't skimp on the gloves. Buy a good pair and wear em in well. That will make em soft enough for you to still have sensitivity. Besides, wear em enough and you'll get used to the feeling, just like race shoes. You'll avoid having to deal with slippery sweaty hands, your hands are protected from flying crap, and you'll look like a bad-*** when you get out of the car all suited up.

Thanks everyone for great advise. I WILL go to G.C. and find where the racers hang.

Best,
Kermooni.
