Today the tranny started to shift HARD. I mean starting from a stop, light throttle 15mph the 1-2 shift banged my head off the seat back. The 2-3 shift also. If turning and the trans shifted the tires broke loose. The trans fluid temp was 227. I figured the trans was gone and nursed it home. After about an hour I drove it a few miles and it's normal again. What's up? Can the trans fluid get hot and cause this? Is the tranny broke?
same problems when gets hot added a cooler and sometimes it still gets 230 it can be a lot of things internal leaks pumps valvebody converter seal turbine seals theses are the problems i am having after they put a new trans in because they messed my trans up on a tsb
Only mods=cai. I can believe I overheated the trans. Not driving fast but I was exploring back roads in WVA and there was alot of up & down and sharp turns at low speed. Do you think there is any permanent damage? It's fine now. I've never experienced this before.
The symptom you describe is usually accompanied by a Check Engine light. Was yours on at the time? In the 4L65-E transmission, this happens when the shift pressure is detected to be too low (i.e., it reverts to max pressure). This can be caused by overheating, but is more usually caused by an incorrect shift parameter or rear end ratio programmed into the ECM/PCM.
Have you installed a Predator tune or something similar?
I doubt any serious damage...
take it into the dealer and tell them what happened.
and make sure you wash out your radiator with a low pressure water hose...
No lights-no codes. No programming, no gears-just cai. Tomorrow I'll check for obstructions in the shroud. I didn't think to check engine temp at the time. Maybe low on ATF?
I've recently posted about how well the car is running-spinning the tires from a dead stop, spinning on the 1-2 shift-guessing the colder air temps are responsible and wondering if something is about to break.
Since it seems to be OK now, will the tech. be able to find anything?
maybe..
but its always better to get it looked at.
you can have any number of prob. from a trans leak to a inop cooling fan...
oh...
no codes will set if you don't get the message trans over temp idle engine...
still sometimes won't set code...
keep posted...

So I take it to the dealer today. They can't look at it for two weeks OK, it's still drivable I make an appointmant for Nov 6. I ask what kind of courtesy car I will get(since they want the vette for two days, maybe more depending on what they find). They say they don't have courtesy cars but will drive me back home. I say $56K for a car and I'll be walking? They say "sorry". I'm looking for a dealer with courtesy cars. This was Castriota chevy in Pittsburgh. Vettes should be sold by Cadillac dealers.

Ron, call DAY CHEVROLET in Monroeville. They have one of the best, if not the best Corvette mechanics in the area. His name is Jim Lupinnaci.
When I had my C-5 in for the rear axle leak, they gave me a car to use. I drive from south hills because of the quality of his work.
