That's what I read, tho I forget the rag, more power to 'em, literally. I certainly wouldn't let that hold up a decision to buy now if cash flow allows it. Life's too short, you could get hit by a beer truck or a drunk tomorrow. The C6 is a remarkable evolution in the Corvette, more will follow until it all hits the fan. Zoom, zoom....

GM won't allow the gap to close. If there is a HP increase in the base C6 you can bet your last dollar the Z06 will get a similar HP increase.
Tom
More than likely, if there is an increase in base HP, then the new "stingray" will be the high end vette and the Z06 will achieve retired status. It'd be nice, but not very smart, for GM to do a 450/550/650 vette lineup, but it would make sense to further the gap between base and high end and boost both sticker prices accordingly.$50-60k for a 450hp fully loaded and $90-100k for the stingray fully loaded.I know that this isn't what most chevy fans want , but it makes more $$$ sense.I've even read stuff about a 6cyl vette, so then there would be a 250/450/550/650HP line up. Why not get rid of the chevy lineup and call the company Corvette?

Oh man I hope not ...I even dislike that there's a V6 Cadillac STS, great motor and I do like 6 cylinder engines in certain cars but it really has no place (at least not since 1955 LOL) in a flagship vehicle such as Corvette or Cadillac's top sedan.
As much as people hate the idea of a 6 cylinder engine in a Corvette, if it were a very powerful 6 cylinder, perhaps supercharged, it wouldn't be so bad (as long as they still offered an 8 cylinder option making more power of course!). A 6 cylinder supercharged Corvette making 350hp is still less of a sacriledge than an 8 cylinder Corvette making only 180hp like they did in the mid 70s! So ignore the number of cylinders, and just focus on the performance. I don't think GM would put a weak engine in the Corvette anymore. Those days are done.
It's for the 2009 model and the top of the line Camaro will also have this same motor and HP numbers. Pretty cool. I can't wait to see the new Camaro running around with Corvette's.

Good points. We know what the '86/'87 Buick 3.8L V6 turbo did in the heavier, boxy GNs/T-types, now imagine what an '86/'87 Corvette would've been like with that motor.
Yeah there were some 'dark days' in the Corvette's history, L48s and L81 motors (barely) making 180-190hp at the crank.

Well that's the 'talk' right now (it's likely true, makes sense) and I know that Steve Saleen leaked it but we still don't know for sure. Time will tell.

Except the Camero will probably weigh 500-750 pounds more than the vette.

I'm in total agreement. I was waiting for the 6 speed auto, then spent the majority of the 06 model year trying to decide when I wanted to buy. I finally made the decision to order an 07 even though I knew a new engine was probably coming in 08. I got seriously tired of waiting and I haven't regretted it.
There's always going to be something coming around the corner . . . .
