Just make sure the GT500 doesn't have this bolted on, the numbers below are on a STOCK engine. There is always somebody faster in a "lesser" car. BTW, I agree with Shooter69 and his elitist theory.
810 HP/745 FT/LB KENNE BELL BIG BORE 2.8H SHELBY GT 500 KIT
They pick on corvettes because they are mostly driven by old farts that never get out of the right lane nor exceed the speed limit.
Luckily, there are a few of us that run them....
porsche 911 drivers are the same, they're mainly too scared to die
many times i've ask them (with a gentleman driver's smile ) to get a chance at a crosslight, nobody takes it
hope you dont flame me for saying this but i found out that young kids on ricers are more streight and open then old farts on expensive rides...they take the chance, they loose and they smile at you and wave before go away...
A lot of the time people just want to see what a car has, how fast it is, not with the goal to beat it!
(e.g. I personally know kids, import and domestic, who try to get in races knowing their car is slower just to see how quick the other car is.)
Might want to look at some of the times real drivers are hitting with the GT500 both stock and slightly modified....like just a tune. The GT500 can very well out run a C6, regardless of what Car and Driver claims.
Real world at Gainesville last saturday. The GT500 that was there was running a half second slower than my car was. He was cutting a slightly better 60' than me. He wouldn't run me.He changed lanes twice to avoid me. The car was trapping 1-2 mph slower than mine. That plus Car & Driver, Road and Track, and moter Trend show a base C6 beating up on an almost Z06 priced GT500 (dealer mark-up). Come to think of it the only magazine with a good number that I've seen is Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords. Wonder if they got a ringer or there is some bias involved???????
I paid 42,900 for my 2006 C6. I'd bet there hasn't been a GT500 go out the door for less than 50k and most have probably been over 60k.
Some of these Mustangs with mods are much faster that a C6. If you race one and win, so what...you beat a Mustang. It's a no win situation in that sense. You accomplish more by ignoring them, because the perceived high & mighty attitude really pisses them off.

pardon me, but i'd consider a lack of 'courtesy' to have a mighty attitude to anyone who wants to try a sprint...after all we all share the same passion. i usually get to know a lot of people through sprinting at cross lights or racing on motorways the real enthusiast never get angry when looses, on the contrary, the stupid low profile poser get mad at it...very simple

i couldnt agree more with you, yes..a lot of kids wants to see you have a run...
I've met some nice mustang drivers so far racing me at stop lights to the next. never lost.....ofcourse this was in a dream since street racing is illegal

What did you run? Stock vs modded, stock vs stock, etc. I'm not talking about magazine racing here. Stock for stock, these cars are very much evenly matched with the win going to the driver. At least two different GT500's (one a convert) running 120-121 with only a tune. Granted, no longer stock but can a c6 run 120-121 with only a tune? Obviously only taking straights here as I'm sure the C6 will own in anything but. But to believe a car magazine where a C6 wins by .1 and 1 mph isn't anything but a drivers race is silly. The cars are matched in the 1/4 mile.
I beat a 3 year old girl on her tricycle last week....blew her doors off...traffic was light so I figured what the heck...might as well try a street race once.

Lol..I beat u made here cry while she pedaled all the way home to mommy.
All the reviews I've seen of the GT500 it gets beat by the C6. Comparing Stock vs. Stock. The GT500 weighs too much...it needs to be "put on a diet".
Just goes to show just about every mustang Rousch, Cobra, GT500 thats stock from factory can't beat a stock C6. And btw resale sucks on mustangs...ford cars in general. Sorry if anyone likes Ford..but this is a corvette forum. I do like the looks of some mustangs though.
When I show up at my backwoods (actually desert) track everyone usually wants to race me and I usually give them a chance unless it looks to skewed of a race in my favor or theirs. Sometimes I win and sometimes I lose. I am straight forward about what I run and so far most races have been a positive experience. Cars that are cheaper or with less cylinders will always see a more expensive or larger motored car as a benchmark to beat. I know because I use to be one of those guys. Now I am resolved to have a NICE car no matter if I can't win every race. Most guys really appreciate the vette for what it is and its ability on the 1/4, road course, or daily driving. Himility in most cases will serve you well.
No, the old farts haven't forgotten the fun of running on the street, we just have the experience that tell's us it's not worth it if you get caught, unlike you pootbutt young kids!
Of course some of us old pathetic people have things to lose. Like my 1600 ton masters paper. Also Ill be kicked from the insurance pool. That means I cant work any more. And I have assets which makes me sueable if things go bad. And a family who is counting on me. I have to admit I dice it up with friends of mine out in the sticks but it isnt a streetrace by any means and the only person I can hurt is myself. The classic streetrace? Nah, I have nothing to gain, nothing to prove, dont care who's car is faster, and plenty to lose.
Good point.sad but true. I put a car and a half on a forged LS1 with a 200 shot a few weeks ago . (i drive a 06Z06 with some bolt ons) out in the sticks late at night. It was fun, but not as fun as it used to be and i was tired at work the next day....................
I was traveling in the center s/b 275 in Tampa area with my LMB 05 Z51just minding my business when all of a sudden a blue Mustang Shelby pulled beside me in the fast lane. The driver and the passenger looked me as if, let's get it on. He tapped on his accelerator several times to provoke me to race. The traffic was mild to somewhat heavy at the time. So on his last acceleration he pulled away rapidly. I just looked and didn't do anything. Now, here goes the funny part. A State Trooper was sitting on the right roadside. It was apparent that he saw the Mustang speeding and the driver acting like a fool in traffic. The State Trooper immediately pulled onto the highway with his emergency equipment already activated for this guy. Fortunately, the State Trooper didn't have to chase the Mustang down because the driver knew he was wrong and immediately pulled over to the right shoulder. This is my third encounter with a Mustang. What is it with these guys picking on Corvettes? Do they want to go home and tell their girlfriends that they beat a Corvette? I don't know. What I have to say about this is, stay away from the Mustangs on the street because they will get you in trouble.
Sounds like the same guy who tried to get me to race in heavy traffic on 301 just south of Brandon Ford last week. Take it to the track!
just goes to show how they really feel about their own ride, gotta try to prove it.
Yep that is for sure and you got that right. You know for sure yourself as you experience it first hand.
For everyone else, it is the thrill you get when you get a chanellege from someone, the rise of the spirit no matter what age you are, that puts you in the seat of a hot car to see what it has and how you can handle it. If you win you win if you don't so be it. Take it like a man/or women... Not getting caught is the fun of it all, handling your car is all the better. Now being sneaky is the best, and I know Zig you know what I am talking about

All depends on what your version of "outrun" is: I like to compare stock vs stock and even with a tune the GT500 will never outrun a C6 top end. To me the true test of "which car is faster" is the standing mile. The car that is ahead at the end is the faster car. So lets set this up and book a trip to the salt flats......
