I was traveling in the center s/b 275 in Tampa area with my LMB 05 Z51just minding my business when all of a sudden a blue Mustang Shelby pulled beside me in the fast lane. The driver and the passenger looked me as if, let's get it on. He tapped on his accelerator several times to provoke me to race. The traffic was mild to somewhat heavy at the time. So on his last acceleration he pulled away rapidly. I just looked and didn't do anything. Now, here goes the funny part. A State Trooper was sitting on the right roadside. It was apparent that he saw the Mustang speeding and the driver acting like a fool in traffic. The State Trooper immediately pulled onto the highway with his emergency equipment already activated for this guy. Fortunately, the State Trooper didn't have to chase the Mustang down because the driver knew he was wrong and immediately pulled over to the right shoulder. This is my third encounter with a Mustang. What is it with these guys picking on Corvettes? Do they want to go home and tell their girlfriends that they beat a Corvette? I don't know. What I have to say about this is, stay away from the Mustangs on the street because they will get you in trouble.
More likely is that he "believed" the moron salesman that told him it would out run a Corvette............... Have to be somewhat "diminished capacity" to buy one of the things in the first place..............

I think this very elitest attitude is why they prey upon Corvettes. If someone is willing to pay the mark-up on the gt 500 they are very likely to spend a tad more to make them even quicker. No good comes out of street racing and many c6 owners realize that. But also many c6 owners like to also ''believe'' things that they think are true or that salesmen told them. Also many are older and think they can handle a manual much better then they can in reality.I too am older but I also realize that when some of these Mustangs, STi's and Evo's want a piece of me it is because they will enjoy knocking me off my elite pedestal.
had a 2002 mustang GT supercharged want me to race his last weekend while at a 60mph roll. I did race him and left him in the dust. He kept provoking and speeding up and down. When we both got stopped at the next redlight he rolled down his window and said "I didn't even have a chance" "that thing is powerful!" We both complimented each others car and we drove at the legal speed the rest of the way together into town.
I encounter a lot of people wanting to challenge me here lately. It's always a no contest. Yes I'm young and still have that competitive racing spirit in me I just can't control sometimes. I want race in traffic...thats asking for trouble.

just goes to show how they really feel about their own ride, gotta try to prove it.
They pick on corvettes because they are mostly driven by old farts that never get out of the right lane nor exceed the speed limit.
Luckily, there are a few of us that run them....
HEY!, I got your "old fart" right here, buddy!!
I be happy to run a new Shelby, at the track!
Guess the old farts forget its fun to run on the street.....
No, the old farts haven't forgotten the fun of running on the street, we just have the experience that tell's us it's not worth it if you get caught, unlike you pootbutt young kids!

Might want to look at some of the times real drivers are hitting with the GT500 both stock and slightly modified....like just a tune. The GT500 can very well out run a C6, regardless of what Car and Driver claims.
Of course some of us old pathetic people have things to lose. Like my 1600 ton masters paper. Also Ill be kicked from the insurance pool. That means I cant work any more. And I have assets which makes me sueable if things go bad. And a family who is counting on me. I have to admit I dice it up with friends of mine out in the sticks but it isnt a streetrace by any means and the only person I can hurt is myself. The classic streetrace? Nah, I have nothing to gain, nothing to prove, dont care who's car is faster, and plenty to lose.
most of the non-Corvette world views Corvette owners as snobby elitists, that think their cars are the best thing on the road. Kind of similar to how Corvette owners view Porsche and Viper owners, lol.
That being said, the 'other guys' like to try and humiliate every Corvette owner they can get to play, since Corvettes aren't as quick as most of the owners think they are....except for the C6 Z06 of course
It is not limited to Mustang drivers nor is it limited to people challenging Vettes. I used to love when people would challenge my truck. But there seems to be people who want to race regardless of car they are driving.

Wow one of the only true responses.... Ricers vs Mustangs, Mustangs Vs Vettes, Vettes vs Vipers, all of these vs Ferrari and Lambo... B**ch of it is some of us own many of these same cars and like all of them.

Yup. Yardsticks and pissing contests - the more things change, the more they stay the same.
I've even seen a Corvette owner post here that Viper owners must be making up for having small penises.
