Got this briefly on my commute to work this AM. Clear, sunny, 36F, cruising at 65 MPH. Message appeared for a few seconds, then went away.
WTF!!??
It's GM's way of looking out for you. They want to make you aware of changing road conditions just like when the traction control engages, it will alert you.
It does that when the temp hits 36 degrees F. Pretty dumb, but there you go. I wonder if I could sue them if I hit some ice and wrecked when it was 37F and the message hadn't shown?
Actually its not dumb to have it go off at 36F. Icing most often occurs on structures from 5C to -10C (41F to -14F). That is due to object being "supercooled" as it travels through the airstream, or the airstream traveling around the structure in the case of bridges, etc., creating freezing temps on the skin of the vehicle. Of course this is when there is visible moisture, and our cars can't sense that (yet).
Mine does it a lot here in MO. since we have been in that kind of weather,, my Suburban does it on the rearview mirror ICE,, is what it says,,, I don't know its interesting and caught me off guard.. but whatever. Its kind of like the little sticker on my new shaver that shows a pair of scissors cutting the electrical cord to the charging mechanism.
What kind of retards ( no offense to those that truely have a medical condition) would even think about cutting the cord. This country is full of idgets that want to sue somebody for their lack of common sense.
BMW's do that also, (at 37 degrees) with a little chime sound effect. Haven't seen it on my Z yet, but will be on the look-out.
and...
apologies in advance for hijacking, but wanted to ask "DrivnXcitment" the significance of the E-2C in his avatar. Do we owe you a big "Thank you for your service"?

When I was stationed in Europe we had to attend a 3 hour class during our initial in processing and I recall being told that "black ice" can/will form on bridges etc at/about 36 degrees. So this warning could save someone's life. It's not as goofy as some folks think.

Overpass type bridges often freeze at 35-38 degrees. I like the warning when temps are in that range. I know when it's 14 below...

My avatar is actually me (taken by my friend on vulture's row) as I trapped aboard the USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN-74) on our westpac deployment in 2004. I am suprised anyone recognized the E-2. The plane so ugly that the earth repels it.
