Major (or in your case Captain (select)) the first thing that a staff officer needs is the ability to listen and regurgitate what his superiors have said. I said you would be the third assistant deputy horse holder . . . not the second.
One thing that you do have to look forward to is that your next promotion will be in a shorter time frame from when you put those railroad tracks on.
Lol, yes sir. My girlfriend asked me today what major select means. I told her it means I'm a Captain. Lt Col may be a bit of a stretch for me but its doable. I've got enough prior time to maybe make it before I retire. We'll see how things go. I've got another tour in Iraq to do with the Army and they may have me run away when I get to 20. It looks like us Logistics officers got picked up to help the Army over there. My particular job is one getting hit hard. Lots of guys are leaving. I won't do that, but I may quit at 20 thank you. I have lots of respect for what the other services do. But, I did what I did for a reason... I don't want to be in crap holes for years at a time. Now keep in mind, I'm an Airforce spec ops guy, so I ate my share of crap, and I work in a Contingency Response Group now with a commander that makes all his officers go to assault school... so I know pain, but I don't want the kind of crap I get in the other services god love them. We just got 80 Army guys attached to our AF group. We are pretty much purple in my business. I love the life, but its tough to settle down and finish the 1950 chevy I have sitting here, finally get a huge garage, get the car to run consistant 10s, etc, etc. Friggin terrorists.
Congratulations on your selection to Air Force O-4.
Just remember that all the stuff you did in the past that amazed your boss will now barely rate a yawn.
Don't forget to thank all the people you stepped on while en route to the top.
Lets not go there. My guys know who makes the place run I make sure of that. I'm a damn good O and I wish you O bashers knew me before you made comments like that. I did this to make up for all the bad ones I came across when I was an E. I look down at the gold leaves and it amazes me that I came all the way from E1. I aint what you think.
congrats! only made it to O3 in the Navy before I got out myself.
Congrats! You get to wear the scrambled egg baseball cap, now! Got out as a Captain after SEA. 6 years was my flight committ, and that was enough. In SEA they worried about how you flew; CONUS worried about your haircut. When you make light colonel, are you buying a Z06? !

Congratulations on your promotion to Major and thanks for your service to this great nation. You guys are the most valuble resource that our country has. Our freedom is made possible by the finest, most capable military that the world has ever seen. I hope you enjoy your career as one of its leaders.
Sorry if that sounds corny but I can't help it as my father is an Annapolis grad.
Yay I've been promoted to Major in the AirForce. I won't pin on till the summer but I think I will buy myself some presents. 150 wet shot, DRs, a cage and a lightened valvetrain. I'll let you all know how it goes.
As a former USAF E-5 Image Interpertation Specialist 30-34 years ago, I salute you, sir.
Good Going, and Congratualtions!!
I hope you remain stateside, but if not, be well and safe.
From a fellow O-4 (though Navy) congrats! I'm in zone for O-5 with my board next Feb. I would rather stay O-4 and there's always a good chance of that now days. That way, I can keep my flying job.
