Default C6 Oil Filter Compassion

Some people like myself are a bit confused about which oil filter to use in their C6. From what I can find out the Delco PF44 was used in the 05 Vette and the Delco PF46 is used in the 06 and 07 Vettes.

I think the PF44 was discontinued and replaced with the PF46.

I like the Mobil 1 M1-107 personally. At any rate here's a pic of the filters.

As you can see there are some differences. Hope this clears up the mystery.

Tom

I think the '05 and '06 use the same filter and the '07 uses a different design, I think.
Though you are right about the PF46 replacing the PF44.
I use the Amsoil filter (and Amsoil oil) in mine.

LS1LT1 is right; all 2007 Corvettes (and 2006 Z06s) use the PF48. The PF48 filter is a totally different, metric-dimensioned design, and IS NOT INTERCHANGEABLE with either the PF44 or PF46.

Tell us what it is about the mobil filter that you like over the others.

Good choice! The Amsoil oil filter is one of the best filters going right now. It flows amazingly well, even as it gets more miles on it that flow rating doesn't drop. And it filters down a lot smaller than most high flow filters too.

I'm using a Wix right now (previously was using the K&N) but I'd like to go with the Amsoil in the future if I can find someone local who has it for a decent price.

I have a 2005 C6 and use the recommended AC Delco PF46 oil filter (which I believe superseded PF44 filter). My LPE 403 motor continues to use the PF46 filter.

If the pf-48 is the 07 filter what is the Mobil filter#for the 07's?. What changed, I heard it was the pressure spring location? Its my first oil change for my 2007 and I want to get it right.Does anybody have a cutaway of the internals on any of the filters. I hate consumer reports but they seem to be much better at simple analysis than complex evaluations, have they done any of the new filters?

That's correct, the 07 is different. AMSOIL now carries both the new AMSOIL Ea Oil Filter line and WIX Filters.

Though a little off topic, sharing the applicable part numbers for lurkers:
05-06:
AMSOIL EAO32
Wix 51042

07:
AMSOIL EA Filter not yet available
Wix 57060

I don't know the Mobil 1 number, but if there is a Mobil 1 equivalent to the PF48, it should be in the archives...do a search.

In addition to being metric-dimensioned, the PF48 has the flow bypass valve built into the filter. All Corvettes before 2007 (except for early C1s and the 2006 Z06) have had the flow bypass valve built into the engine block or filter adapter.
