I have a 2006 Z51 with MZ6 transmission. I have noticed the last several times I have started from a dead stop, it sounds as though the rear wheels are breaking loose. It is merely a sound and doesn't actually feel like it. I am not accelerating fast, just simple letting out the clutch and accelerating normally. Has anyone else had this same feeling or is this something I should have checked?
If you're tires are actually spinning, you should see the "traction" icon on the DIC. Get a friend to watch you leave from a stop, confirm that the wheels are actually spinning.
Good suggestions and I concur cold weather is conducive for increased tire spin. I don't know what is "normal" for you starting-out but try starting-off very gingerly, then again with a bit more spirit (and again if need be). See at what point you experience the 'noise.' I would think you'd know if you're breaking loose or not.
FWIW, it was in the 40s one day last week and I was cruising in 3rd gear...I slowly accelerated and by the time I almost had the pedal floored and hit higher RPMs my tires were spinning significantly (albeit quietly).
Most likely the tires are not spinning with "normal" acceleration unless there is gravel or water on the road or it was very cold. I would think you could tell if the tires were spinning. Most likely all is ok, get on a back road roll down all the windows and see what you hear. I would not want the dealer checking for tire spinning.

i disagree....
i've done just what you said.....on a summer day, in fact
at this country intersection (narrow roads with little traffic) i stopped at a stop sign......on the right side of the road was a 3 foot tall concrete wall......as i did a normal acceleration away, i could clearly hear my tires loosing traction.....this was the first time i really understood just how much power these light rides have
so we need to distinguish between different types of "spinning the wheels"......there's all-out spinning, a la smokey burnouts.....then there's the less crazy type of smokeless burnout.....
then there's what i refer to as normal, vette micro-spins.....the sort of rubber slippage that occurs under accelerations from a dead stop, at anything above a slow takeoff.....
that's one big reason why our tires wear out so fast.....everyday slippage

Confirm the "conducive", and agree with the "albeit".

I must have been a case of "everyday slippage". I did a full "dump" the clutch takeoff yesterday and interestingly enough, I did not see the Traction Control display light up. Could be I was too busy watching the road.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I will keep an eye on it over the next few days. It is definitely not a throwout bearing or clutch problem.
