I just bought a brand new '07 C6 and after a few runs I noticed the engine light has been on. When I purchased the vehicle my dealership filled up my gas tank. My question is could my engine light be on beacause of the dealership failing to pump at least 91 Octane???
Low octane won't trigger check engine light. Computer will retard timing to avoid knocking. Not desirable. Loose gas cap is common cause of check engine. Will have to get it reset and be sure that's the cause.
yes lose gas cap will do it every time....the check engine light could also be cause by something else...if you don't want to wait at your local dealer, take it to your local auto store..they will pull the code for you for free and not much of wait time too...of course if it isn't an gas cap code, you will have to go back to the dealer.

An added tip: this gas cap is a slightly different design than most other caps; i.e., rather than push in on it as you rotate it to lock it in place, all you have to do with this design is rotate the cap for it to seat properly. Took me a while to figure that out, especially since I went from an 04 C5 to an 05 C6. Also, it sometimes takes several engine off/on cycles for the CEL to clear once you get the cap on properly. HTH.

While low octane won't trigger a "check engine," bad gas will. Happened to me in my C5 when I bought cheap gas from a station I did not normally visit. If the car feels like its running ok and reseating the gas cap doesn't work, run the tank down to almost empty and fill up with some good gas. If it was bad gas the light will go out after 50 miles or so on good gas. I think this was even in my C5 owners manual, IIRC.
I might have found the problem. Yesterday for the first time I got the LOW FUEL warning as my gas tank was approaching EMPTY for the first time. I noticed the engine light went off at that moment. I took the car to the gas station and filled it up with 91 Octane. The engine light remains off. The car is currently at the dealership now and they will do some more testing. I will keep you guys updated later on today.
