I love you guys who think that any I repeat ANY mechanical assembly that use's/contains oil/lube IE engine's/transmission's/rear ends/ transfer case's are going to be leak free! your crazy! weeping is a normal fuction of a seal, it keeps it clean and lubed, if your not losing great amounts of oil/lube, there's nothing wrong!!!
I test drove an 05 A4 yesterday that sounded like the belt or a pulley was squeaking. This is a common problem?
Better make real sure real quick that the harmonic balancer bolt isn't backing out! This is not a common problem, but a major one! Maybe affecting about 2% of all '05's with VIN's below 11039.
New alternator fixed the issue for me; something about the pulley not being perfectly alligned and the internals being just loose enough to "slip" when I was running through gears hard.
I purchased my '05 in Feb. '06 (used)
last 8 on the VIN ... 55102xxx
built late Aug. and just in to Sep. '04
I have had the follwoing issues (and in some cases, still dealing with).
I am wondering what other issues I should be reporting to my mechanic before the warranty runs out.
1. roof delamination (replaced before it blew off)
2. belt squeal associated with loose harmonic ballancer (on-going issue)
3. trunk release button at rear of car will not work
4. lumbar and side bolster switches failed on driver's seat
5. Nav. DVD will not eject (and still will not play MP3s after updated firmware)
6. L shapped restraining bracket by firewall on passenger's side fell out
7. front turn/daytime running lights melted wiring harness and stopped working
8. finish on interior door release buttons and ignition swith chipping
9. vinyl on glove box tearing on right edge
10. dead battery
11. oil leak near bell housing
12. fluid leak between transimission and rear end
13. steering wheel keeps shifting (center shifts to about 11 o'clock postion)
14. HUD clear lens turned white at bend/curve in plastic
It's been a long time...and I am thankful for that
So it's been slightly over 3 years since my last post on this thread and believe me I am very happy about that. I do unfortunately have an issue to add to the list of things which have given me problems on my '05.
#15 - Clutch Master Cylider failed.
It's never fun to be running up through the gears and just when you go to grab 6th you discover the clutch pedal is still on the floor. Fortuantely I could drop it in to neutral and costed into a parking lot. All that was left to do was wait for the tow truck...
