If one were to mod their A6 and try to keep this from the dealer as to not obviously void a warranty, would the only mods possible be a mild cam, ported polished stock TB and intake manifold? Other than possible gears and TC am I missing anything?
You are not likely to install a cam and the dealer not figure that out. Simple mods that don't break the seal are ok, but break the seal and stand by to be denied.
yeah I was thinking that they wouldnt know if the cam was changed if it idled like stock or that the intake was P&P'd etc. Could they really tell if things were apart if they are not looking for it in the first place?
I had LT headers and AFR heads on my C5 for the last two years I had it. I had the AC compressor and several other items replaced under warranty and the dealer never noticed.
It cannot be about stealth of the mods ... it has to really do with the impact that the mod had on the part that is broken ... I mean they cannot deny a warranty claim on your stereo if you have an aftermarket exhaust ... or they cannot deny a claim on your engine if you have a custom stereo ...
good point just thought the more stealthy the less chance of making waves if the dif goes out or the h2o pump goes bad etc. I realize that I have to be a big boy and take my repairs like a man if I mod.
You might be shocked to learn of all the reasons/modifications a dealer can deny warranty service for. In my experience, dealerships do not want to risk allowing warranty service on anything even remotely related to a modification.
If you think you're going to install a cam and the other items you mentioned and hide it from the dealership....I think you're dreaming.
I wouldn't suggest being deceitful or lying about it (for a number of reasons) either. If you're that concerned about keeping your warranty, wait until your warranty expires before you mod. Why try to swindle General Motors?
I would stick to intake path mods such as CAI, Air Bridge (if it becomes available), ported TB, and ported intake manifold. For exhaust I would recommend long tube headers and high flow cats. Maybe a catback if you want the car to be louder. None of those mods will get you hassled at the dealer.
If you go beyond those... 160 t-stat and a custom tune. These won't get you noticed either... and they are really great once the other items are done.
When they plug that computer in they will know, it would be best to fess up and say as little as possible but at least fess up that it has been tuned. They will know most of the mods anyways but at least you didn't lie and really p... them off and GM deny all your warranity. It kind of like going to the police with red dye all over you and that you haven't been in the bank!
