I was wondering, since so little is known about the 2008, if it is better to wait for the 2008 or buy the proven 2007, given that money would not be an issue in this discussion?

Reason: Is it better to wait for the 2008

I wouldn't worry one way or the other, both will be great cars. GM will always change up the combination after a few years to have some thing new to market and sell. The 05's had very few bugs, and the 06 A6A has proven to be reliable. So if you can't wait, get an 07. If you can wait, get the 08 and more power. Do what ever makes you happy.
new wheels
LS3 6.2L Engine
425hp on the base
435hp on the Z51
Z06 style exhaust with butterflys on the Z51
New transmission (T-6060)
New interior upgrade option
New red and blue colors
These have been substantiated by several "inside sources", though not OFFICIALLY thru GM yet.
Nobody can tell YOU if those changes are worth the wait for YOU or not. Personally, I'm waiting. I'm buying this car for pure performance, so the bigger more powerful engine with the upgraded tranny is a no brainer. If you are just looking for a cool looking cruiser, you may not care so much about the upgrades.
I need an A6A because I live in L.A. and the traffic is terrible. There's nothing worse than sitting in CA traffic balencing a
clutch. Do you think they'll make a Z06 in an auto?
I went to the dealer this weekend to look at Z06's. He had two of them in stock. I WILL have a Z06 very soon but I am going to wait to see what the 08's have to offer. We should know in about 6 weeks. I can wait since I have to sell my 13K mile 96 LT4 CE before I can take delivery of one. I do not have the garage space and refuse to leave the vette outside.
With the money you can save on an 07 right now, it is crazy to wait. Also you can take a small amount of the money you save and put some simple mods on the 07 that will make it run stronger then an 08.
I wouldn't wait but that is me. I don't think the pricing will be as good as they are now. And 25-35 hp should be easy to make up. Now if I could say for sure the prices would be as good on the 08 and the HP would be higher then I would wait.
I'd go for the 2007 or if money isn't an issue....buy a Z06. IMO the small increase in hp rumored for 2008 models isn't that big of deal and could easily be surpassed with minor modifications to the LS2 engine if desired.
My personal prejudice against the new 2008 engine is it will be DOD (displacement on demand) often running-on 4 of 8 cylinders. This may be great providing efficiency and reduced gas consumption but a DOD engine doesn't jive with my perception of a high performance sports car. IMO GM should save the DOD technology for Grandma's Impala (this is just my personal opinion of DOD in a Corvette and most others likely don't feel about it as I do).
Bottom line...if your'e not into modifying a C6 I'd suggest you buy a Z06. At least test drive one. I think you will like it.
The trouble is for me, is that I really need an A6 tranny for where I live, otherwise I'd get the Z06. They ain't makin one of those for the Z, so I still don't know which way to go, 2007, or 2008
TM is there primarily to protect the driveline. A beefier transmission and new engine would certainly allow for a less intrusive torque management calibration. Weather it actually turns out that way is anyone's guess.

Well, I guess in a way, we're paralleling each other. I just sold my LT4 (18K miles) and will wait to buy the '08. I'm not as worried about displacement on demand being a non-sports car/non-Corvette issue. Plus, even if only half the things get into production that are being tossed around here on the internet and CF, I'll be happy.
And one final thing: by then, '08, Chev will have had/be starting on the fourth model year to tweak and eliminate some of the little bugs, not that others can't pop up with new items included such as a man trans or engine management. I think it'll all be for the good! Can't wait.
