C6 vs. C5Z06
showroom stock I ran 12.10 at 116, 1.96 60ft (350rwhp) I only made about 10 runs showroom stock, just couldn't help from modding it
air intake (vararam) and 315 BFG dr's only (365rwhp)
11.69 at 115, 1.65 60ft
cam, headers, et streets (405rwhp)
11.41 at 119, 1.58 60ft
cam, headers, 3.90 gears, et streets (400rwhp - loss a few due to gears)
11.28 at 122, 1.51 60ft
ended up changing the heads later on to cnc ls6, made about 450/405sae. Made no drag runs on this setup (had my mind on the C6Z and couldn't fathom breaking it so close to getting rid of it).
C6Z - 11.31 showroom stock. God help me if i mod this one - my wife is going to leave me and try and take 1/2 of a 427 Z with her
My thoughts are this:
C5Z is stronger on top end, 65mph+
C6 is stronger down low but looses' it's breathe above 70mph
This is a stock to stock comparison with obviously me being the driver of both. Now my C6 has same mods my C5Z had and even untuned feels stronger than Z.
Also consider the Z's are lighter. I believe my 3LT package is about 3200+lbs before me. I weighed my C5Z and it was 3050 with 1/2 tank of gas and me out of the car.
This would also help explain why the C6 is stronger down low but looses' it's grunt up top.
I owned a 2003 C5 Z06. And I now own a 2007 A6 C6.
The Z is faster and pulls stronger from everything I can tell. The C6 is still fast but it feels....soft..for a lack of better words. It was like the Z was a violent fast, noisy, bumpy, low to the ground. And the C6 is smooth fast, quiet, not-bumpy, and a little higher.
The Z slammed by head into my seat if I wasn't careful
And the C6 presses it back into the seat.Of course with the Z being a manual, my driving had a lot to do with it...but overall the Z felt faster..just not as refined.

[/QUOTE]I bet you are going to miss her! By the way, really excellent times in your C5Z.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
It is true that the 405 HP Zs are a TAD quicker than the C6.
I blame Toque Managament.
I generally don't see anybody but older generation guys with their wives driving the c6 around in my town. This doesn't necessarily mean they aren't great drivers, but odds are they are average at best.
By Contrast, most of the c5z's in town are driven by younger men...possibly more apt to spend time perfecting their driving.
But those are major assumptions, and we know what assuming does.
I agree that the tune on the c6 holds it back a bit. As with almost any drive by wire system, the factory is going to tune in some margin for error that they otherwise couldn't with a standard lingage throttle system.
Stock for stock, I'm going to agree that the C5Z has the advantage. Though I don't think it's enough to overcome poor driving.
actually, the C5Z has gone a few tenths faster. I know Ranger and my old Houstonian friend J-Rod went in the 11s showroom stock in '02 Z06s. Here's Rangers sig portion for his '02 car:
Bone Stock Stock Tires.11.81 117.26 1.78 60
the C5Z is REALLY a light car
Anyone who doesn't believe me come on down to my neck of the woods in your C5Z - and bring cash 'cause I don't take American Express

I don't know if this stuff is accurate. Looks about right based on the other cars however.
Note: A lot of those cars like the GT3 and Lotus Exige come with R compounds stock so that's really apples to oranges since the runflats are just plain awful(In comparison to Michelin Pilot Sport Cups). Even if you went to a BFG KD street tire you'd drop a few secs.
