Does the Varumm Snakecharmer CAI require a tune or is it just recommended. I am in Central florida and curious where is the best shop to do a tune if needed. Thanks.
It sounds like they require a condenser from the postings.
I was going to get one too, but the comments on build quality
and the number of people who have poked a hole in the condenser
have led me toward the Callaway CAI (I suppose you could poke
a hole in the condenser with that).
From what I understand, with any CAI you get the most benefit
with a tune.

Happy with mine. Install wasnt that bad. Didnt need a new condenser. Take your time. Dont need a tune either but would be better with one. I'd wait until I did a few more mods before a tune.

you don't need a tune or a condensor. just take your time, you will be pleased with the results
Cut the shroud in the car. Use the template but cut it a bit bigger. Taking out the schroud as a PITA ,just take your time and put piece of hard board between the shroud and the condensor. If your in central Fl. go to Next Level Performance In Altamonte Springs and have Mike Norris tune it for you. 407-869-race.

You will not need a condenser. Dont bother with the pre-cut shroud. Use a retractable blade box cutter or knife, have it only extend out about 1/4" or so. If you want to be ectra careful slide a piece of heavy cardboard or thin plywood in to cover the condenser while you cut.
A tune isnt absolutely necessay, but it will get you the most performace out of the mod, especially if you get a road tune. A dyno tune is OK, but will not have the benefit of the extra airflow you are getting at speed. Either way, once it is installed drive at normal speeds and on the highway for 100 miles or so to allow the ECM to adjust for the extra air before you start to hammer it.
Here's a great thread to follow if you want to DIY
How I cut my condensor was stupid as well. I followed the instructions of Craigster above. I had cut on the shroud, no issue. I had my work gloves on and they are a bit slippery. Anyway, I was inspecting my work with my box cutter and it slipped out of my hand and hit the condensor It feel maybe 2 inches and damaged it. Dumb mistake but avoidable.
