Default Ported intake dyno.

Just dyno'd today after installing a ported stock intake manifold on Sun. 3-18. Dynojet 248, SAE corrected, smoothing 5.

384.42 RWHP/381.76RWTQ

Previous dyno w/1 7/8" Dynatech headers, w/cats, Lingenfelter CAI,160° stat, CoW tune was;

375.97RWHP/370.07 RWTQ

Gains of 8.45 RWHP and 11.69RWTQ

I added a cheap "catch can' while I had the intake off, there was a lot of oil coating the inside of the intake;;

A 1/4" air compressor filter from Home Depot @ $11.97
2, 90° 1/4" npt fittings @ $3.84 ea
2, 1/4" npt to 3/8" tubing fittings @ $2.76 ea
2'+ of 3/8" fuel line hose @ $4.41 ea
4, hose clamps @ $0.59 ea
Total of $38.35

Barely 150 miles and oil in the plastic bowl already!

I was told it was a Formato port job, I bought it used and the seller never verified who ported it.

Rather consistent gains from the porting, I picked up 7.2/11.1 with an intake port.

Nice installation of the oil separator.

The ported intake might be my last mod, sure looks like it's worth it!

Thanks for the prop. When I saw how much oil was on the runners of the intake and pooled around the gaskets I had to do something. Was pretty easy with the intake manifold off, good access to the fitting on the valley cover. Almost scary that I have a 1/4" of oil in the plastic bowl in only 150 miles (w/2 Dyno pulls).

Your peak gains are slightly better than mine. What about low to mid range RPM gains? From about 3500-5500rpm, I gained around 10rwhp/tq SAE.

Good results!

Those gains are right in line with what a ported intake should yield. Mine produce similar results but the one you tested definitely is not from my hand. There's no way I'd ever let something with that much variation from port to port get out the door. I thought you made a typo on your original post I've got dial calipers on the bench at all times and use them to make a standardized port entry that is very close to the size of the intended cylinder head. I'm all about making the intake right for the intended cylinder heads. Not just pushing product out the door.

sounds like a sale pitch in the middle of other vendor's thread.

fwiw:

there seems to be some correlation between how much oil gets sucked up (or captured via the main pcv line) and the presence or absence of a vent line catch can.

i have cans on each line and have captured (or would have burned), less than 1 (one) tablespoon after 900+ miles.

the 'stone' elements can become clogged after time, keep a good eye on it. i've got one on my vent line, however, i used a 1/16" drill bit and added five vent holes into the bottom of the 'stone'.

Great numbers man. It seems these LS2`s put down very close numbers w/ these mods. Others are seeing very close to what we have.
I made almost the same numbers on a dynojet 248 except I ported my intake myself and the headers are 1 3/4. Tune was by Jeff at CAM. see sig. Sounds like are cars are very similar.

Funny how the brand loyalty doesn't seem to make a difference to the final numbers. Headers w/cats, CAI, tune, 160° stat, ported intake regardless of who made the parts and how the tune was done. I'm happy with the manufacturers products I have and the results I have so far.
Sure would have liked 400RWHP/400RWTQ with what I've done but this will do.

I would say, borderline. I'm going to try Cory's porting through my vendor.

I've got rockers and was hoping for the 400rwhp mark as well when I added my ported intake. Came close with 397rwhp, up from 393rwhp. Wouldn't be able tell the difference anyway, just 3rwhp, but on paper...the net.....is where it counts A FAST intake would get us there but there goes the stealth look though long-tubes via sound usually give away the car isn't quite stock. Though withe my new VR, I'm sure at speed, say above 50mph, I probably have over 400rwhp, just can't measure that on the dyno.

Please watch that stone - they clog. You might want to remove it, you don't need it. Or try what Zig did.

My buddy and I with the Campbell Hausfeld catch can mod both blew out our front seals on the road course, we think from clogged stones. If the PCV can't flow the pressure goes somewhere, in our case, our front seals. I'd hate for you to follow suit.

Exactly!

Add rockers and a retune and I think both of us would be there, or 1 or 2 shy...

I had my intake ported by Jeremy Formato and gained 15/rwhp and 15/rwtq.
