1) Leave the car out in the sun with the windows rolled up so that the rear glass gets hot.
2) Sand the rear window dots on the inside so that they are not sticking out and feel smooth.
3) Cut one piece of tint and lay on the outside of the glass.
4) Heat the tint and begin shaping it (stretching it) to the curve of the glass with a hair dryer on hot/high.
5) When the shape is a fit, open the hatch and install it rubbing the bubbles to the edges.
6) Keep in in the sun or a warm place for the next few days and gently rub any remaining bubbles or places not sticking with a soft cotton towel.
Some use a glue stick on the dots but other do not.
Good Luck and Enjoy
You don't need a picture of the dots, go out and look at it on your car!
At the upper end of the rear windshield there is a black dot matrix on the inside of the glass. There are tiny gaps in between these raised dots, and this causes adhesion problems with tint film.
What I want to know is, what is everyone else paying for their perfect one piece tint jobs? In south carolina I got an estimate for $150 but the guy wasn't experienced enough to let him touch my car. Here in san diego I got a quote from a mobile service that gaurantees it up the wazoo, but it's $350.00!! For a tint job!! What is everyone else paying?
here in savannah,ga i paid 120 (front strip, side windows, and rear-one piece) he is awsome that all he does and its based out of his house! im very happy with the work, good luck
Well, here in CA aka ripoff land, I'm paying $300 for an ex marine to come and tint my windows. He's done tons of vettes and always does great one piece jobs. I'll get it as dark as possible without getting pulled over, and I'll post pictures asap.
Here's a pic of my C6 with its one piece tint job.
No glues were used...my guy was just very skilled and used a heat source to shape the tint on the outside of the glass before placing the tint on the inside for the final fitting.
Took him 3 attempts and about 2 hours to get right! but it sure looks good.
This was done March 2006 and has not lifted or peeled anywhere.

My rear is also one-piece. I am anxious to see the adhesion gap around the dots disappear. The dude said if I rub the affected area and park in the sun for a week it will go away. It had better, or I'm calling him back!
Could someone please post a picture of these dots. I'm just now looking into tinting and would like to know what I'm up against as well. Thanks.
I took some close-up pictures of the “dots” on my rear tinted window on Saturday, but my digital camera decided not to save the pictures.
I’ll try again this weekend and post them for you.

Shawn, Thank you. My car was still in storage until two days ago so I now know what all the hoopla is about. Maybe you can help me out on another issue though. Most of this thread talks about a 1 piece rear tint. Is two piece taboo? Does the dreaded dot issue go away with a 2piece? I don't know of a reputable tinter in my area, although I'm asking around. If anyone out there can recommend a tinter in the Hudson Valley I'd appreciate it.

Make sure you are rubbing. Don't expect it to work with time and the sun only.

Well, I wouldn’t say its “taboo”, but it’s definitely the sign of a less experienced installer.
2-piece will not solve the “dots” issue. You still need to deal with them either way.
It’s just easier for the installer because he’s working with a smaller piece of film.
He can work slower because he doesn’t need to worry about the glue drying out too fast.
Just beware if you go with a 2-piece you’re going to see the break.
In some cars they can line the seam up with the defroster lines, but that’s impossible with the C6 because of the way they’re curved.
And with the steep slope of the glass it’s going to stick out like a soar thumb looking out the back from the inside.
Not sure what part of the country you are in, but my tint guy actually painted the dots. He has done many C6's and actually masks off everything except the dot area and then paints it black and tints right up to the painted area. It looks PERFECT on my car. The guy is more like an artist that a tinter. He does amazing work and I'm completely satisfied. See if you can find some people through your local corvette club that had theirs done and get the name of their tinter. I found my tinter that way. It was nice to talk to other C6 owners that could recommend someone reputable.
If you are near the Atlanta area, call Oasis window tinting in Lawrenceville,GA at (770) 638-9900. Ask for "Sundown". (no kidding) He is the owner.
Fill out your profile so we know where you are...
Good luck!
I know this is an old post, but I just wanted to say that based on what I heard here I took my new C6 to Sundown at Oasis, and I am very pleased with the result. His shop isn't as flashy as others, but this guy really knows his stuff.
He painted the top and tinted the rest, and I haven't been able to find a flaw yet. Looks fantastic, and I'll post some pics of the painted region later.
I couldn't bring myself to ask him how he ended up named Sundown. Hippie parents?
ps. Because my car is registered in SC, I can spray paint the windows black if I want to and get away with it. Out of state cars are exempt from tinting regulations!!! limo tint here I come, as soon as I figure out who to take it to!
unless something has changed, thats not correct. I got a ticket in my FL registered car driving through Mojave for tint on the front windows. The cop said it didn't matter if I was registered in another state, its illegal to drive in CA with tint on the front windows, and I got a fix-it ticket. that was 10 years ago though, when I was stationed at Pt Mugu.
