Still unresolved Tinting issue
I tried asking this before and got a barrage of hocus pocus answers, none of which seemed a solid answer. HOW DO YOU TINT THE REAR WINDSHIELD OF THE C6 WITH ONE PIECE?
Every job I've seen has the dot matrix blacked out in vinyl and a 2nd piece of film covering the rest of the glass. This reduces visibility through the dot area from low to ZERO, and it looks like garbage.
I've heard people say "use a gluestick and hairdryer" and no tint shop has ever heard of it or will attempt it.
Every tint shop I go to only knows the two piece method I spoke of. When I insist on uniform tint and one piece over the entire rear windshield they offer to take a razor blade to the dots, which might be fine, except you run the risk of a)cutting the rear defroster connections and/or b) making it look like crap with no cancel button.
LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU'VE DONE, I WANT TO KNOW HOW TO TINT MY CAR PROPERLY. I CANNOT DRIVE OUTSIDE SAN DIEGO AREA FOR THIS.
ps. Because my car is registered in SC, I can spray paint the windows black if I want to and get away with it. Out of state cars are exempt from tinting regulations!!! limo tint here I come, as soon as I figure out who to take it to!
to your question, my rear window is done in one piece, I watched him do it. 20%, don't have an issue with the dot matrix unless you get close.
"the dots don't cause a problem until you get real close"
Yeah? How close? If you can see it at all it's unacceptable. Bubbling, gap-ridden tint jobs just make the car look cheap.
Still frustrated, Still looking for an answer!
In 80% tint.
I watched him junk the first 2 attempts, had to heat (with a propane torch just to apply heat to form using this very carefully)and shape first on the outside than placed inside and pressed and shaped again. He finally got it third attempt.
Great guy...very proud of his trade!
Spoke to him a month later and he told me that another customer came in with another C6 and he tried and tried, but after six or so attempts gave up and two pieced that job!
Very happy that he was able to do mine in one piece.
Fortunately in Canada most provinces allow rear window tint as long as it does not interfere with driver's periphral.

The guy who tinted my windows have been doing it for about 12-15 years. Looks great, no bubles, lines, vinayl or ect...
He is in Cali (southern/central)... pm me if you get desperate...

He uses one piece and sands the dots. It looks perfect. No white around the dots.
The installer heated, shaped and cut the film to size on the outside of the rear window before applying the film on the inside glass.
As the glass heats-up in the sun each day, I try rubbing the small 'flawed' area down and its slowly helping. I've probably fixed about half the small area. It's not perfect but its not bad enough to have them redo it.
If you are near the Atlanta area, call Oasis window tinting in Lawrenceville,GA at (770) 638-9900. Ask for "Sundown". (no kidding) He is the owner.
Fill out your profile so we know where you are...
Good luck!

heating with a blowtorch, pressing the bubbles and praying, painting the dots, sanding the dots, no tint guy I talk to has heard of any of these procedures. I'M GOING CRAZY!!!! SOMEONE HELP!
I CAN NOT LEAVE SAN DIEGO FOR THIS TINT JOB! I have heard of Sundown but alas he is in Atlanta.

exactly like mine. I left the car outside in the sun and rubbed the dots down with the back of my finger for like a week. Just concentrating on one section at a time in the dotted area. It looks pretty good, no way would go back and ask for a re-do. It's 95% clear after some effort. Probably wouldn't have come out so well if I would have just left it alone (and my installer basically told me that upfront).
I'll try and take a pic and post it. It's hard to tell.
