Default Header Recommendations

Ok, just getting ready to buy headers (most likely Kooks). Should I go with a 3/4" or 7/8" if I am going to add a heads/cam package? Cam will be an LPE GT11 and I will most likely use AFR 205 heads. I'm buying a Callaway Honker CAI as well.

So which size should I be looking at? AND I already have a Corsa Sport Exhaust with their XO pipe and need to know if I need a complete header system or just the long tube headers only?

Last thing, where is the best place to buy Kooks headers?

thanks for all of your help folks!!

thanks for the replies, I forgot to ask if you had any drone with your headers or does that usually occur with the exhaust? Still pretty new to this stuff.

Unless you plan on "very extensive mods" you need 1-3/4 only, in the manufacturer of choice. Everyone has there own favorite...so take your pick.

The conventional wisdom goes back to before I was old enough to drive. At that time everyone knew the rules. Big block, bigger tubes, small block, smaller tubes. Except of course for highly modified small blocks which would suffer on the top end without the bigger tubes and were an accepted exception to the rule. A lot has changed since then.

Does the conventional wisdom hold up? Well, lets see. I first began reading where some tuners were saying that they were not seeing a lower rpm loss with the 1 7/8 tubes. Pretty soon I started seeing runs from actual owners who had them installed and didnt lose anything compared to their smaller tubed brothers. Not all that long ago I went ahead and installed the 1 7/8 tubes on mine. I made more power than a set of LGs that were installed the day before with nearly identical conditions. Everywhere. Curve was very similar. Its hard to argue with real results proved out on your own car even when your a skeptic like me.

IMO the LS2 appears to be capable of running 1 7/8 without giving up anything on the bottom to mid range while giving you more headroom. Dont pass them up without careful thought, especially if you might be modding further.
