The enthusiast vs the perfomance battles will rage on forever. Do what feels good and be happy.

I am of the school that wants to be able to return my car back to exact original,so I store every part removed.I am happy with intake/exhaust/wheels/upgraded rotors/painted calipers/sways/a few engine dress-up goodies and an upgraded sound system.Just enough to make it personal. My car is my baby,so no tire smokin' or racing here.

The C6 is alot like a woman. Some keep her stock and drive her gently and pamper regularly since theirs are the only hands she has ever known... virginal. These sort generally complain about the ones who like a modded car.

I would rather have mine as a bitch queen who routinely curls my toes and has me begging for more. I drive her like I hate her and enjoy the hell out of the process. Are mod's really worth it? Oh yeah...

This is the first car I have owned that I will probably keep for a loooong time. So I have no reservations about adding mods.

For $43k base model C6 2LT + $20K in power/suspension upgrades, I now have a car that is very reliable, and will outrun and out handle 99%of the cars on the road!

Yes worth every penny to me!

I understand. It is strange how the girls today seem to greatly prefer the second approach over the first. Like my Devilray, they want to be driven hard and put up wet. Oh, well... someone's got to do it.

I have my eyes on a used Procharger for $4,000(fair price) but by the time I pay to have it installed/tuned and with all the bells and whistles it is over $6,000. Then I am told I need a new clutch to harness the power and while they are there I should get long tube headers and hi-flow cat's, and then don't forget wider tires.... Where does it end. I just really want to enjoy my car and not have it at the shop all the time. Mod's are like a drug once you take a hit you can't stop, but drugs would be alot cheaper. This is stressing me out just thinking about it, I think I am going to go get HIGH.
One more thing to worry about:

1. When you sell it or wreck it, you can kiss those mods goodbye.

I also have an 06, Z-51, 6-speed, convertible and I love the mods. I would stay away from any used induction systems, I have heard many, many, very expensive nightmares. My car makes 462 RWHP and 454 RWT with no power adders and runs 11.4's at 125 on the stock run flat tires. I have spent about $10,000 including labor and I think it's been money well spent. The car drives great and it still gets 27-28 mpg on the highway. Here is what I have done along with the vendors where I purchased the parts.

Hurricane Cold Air Intake West Coast Corvettes
Long Tube Headers, High Flow Cats, X-Pipe, Borla Touring Exhaust WCC
LSX FAST Intake with Addapter Kit Lingenfelter Performance
Underdrive Reduction Pulley Lingenfelter
160 Degree Thermostat Lingenfelter
Competition Cam Dual Valve Springs

Default Thanks Everone!!!

Well I decided against the Used Procharger which was most likely a good deal but not for me at this time. I got a 100 shot TNT wet nitrious system for when I do get to go to the track. I am installing it today and then putting on the dyno to check A/F ratio. I am lowering the car, painting the calipers, tinting the windows, and looking for some chrome wheels. This should hold me over until the C7 gets here.

Everyone will probably hate me for saying all this, but since you're on the subject...

Every girlfriend I've had turns out to be some uber-**** with 40 stalking ex boyfriends. WTF what happened to the virginal-type, quality smart women who realize it's better to find a good nice guy and hang on tight? No, they'd rather go from loudmouth jerk to the next, putting notches on their belt to the dismay of whatever poor fool that ends up marrying them. When I make love to my girlfriend I don't want to have images of her 40 ex's lining up for the same "service". And I don't want to think she's virginal in a self dilusion. I want to KNOW IT. It's not that I believe in double standards, quite the opposite. I want to be with only one woman for the rest of my life. I don't feel the need to burn through a slew of ***** first like many of my friends. It seems impossible to find a single girl with the same attitude!

I'm only 23 but I'm old fashioned. I wouldn't mind having an english teacher who likes to cook for a wife. Let me be the man damnit.

My vette is my virgin. No mods, Owned since new. Every time I take it to the dealer I cringe when the asswipe working there gets in, messes up my settings, burns out and then claims "it was a mistake, the clutch slipped". BS get out of my car you ***.

Granted there are things I would like to do, but the money, it just aint worth it. Anything you do only lowers resale and reliability for some short lived cheap thrills. Would you want to buy a c6 with 40k miles that had an APS TT kit since new? No, because you know the engine would be burned out, ready to pop, thats why its for sale... American cars already have trouble making it past the 100k mi mark, why test the odds further? In my opinion everyone of you who has a c6 with a super or turbocharger honestly has too much money. You have a great car stock, but it's not good enough, you have to throw more money at it, make it faster than everyone elses, make it more likely to fail earlier and more likely you'll have to go buy another one even sooner. That's the american way right? Consume, thrash, trash, buy another? Too much money in your pockets I say, things are way out of hand.

This fellow in OC with the APS TT saying it's the "first car I've ever owned"... I can just imagine some 16 year old with that money at his disposal, and it makes me sick.

Nicosuave--You are doomed to a lifetime of mistrust and worry over both your women and your cars. Too bad.

I'd buy the used TT car in a minute at the right price. I've been married to the same beautiful wild child woman for 37 years, and I've dynoed stock Z28 Camaro Chebbies and GT Mustangs that made (slightly) more power at 100k miles than they did at 1k miles.

We are different. I am a risk taker, an entrepreneur, a capitalist, an optimist. I have learned a lot since I was your age. I could probably take in/adopt your old girlfriends and buy your old cars and be very happy with them. And my standards are not low, they are just realistic.

Gotta go to a job I look forward to every day, so that I can support the wife that I love, and still have some money left over for our hobbies and a few sometimes troublesome and expensive toys.

Thanks for the curse. It's somehow emboldening to think of those other than yourself as doomed isn't it? As if your own path is superior.

I have heard some cars get better with age, that they produce more power with age etc. Only hope it happens with my car.

Think I'm not a risk taker? I have a degree in Aquatic Biology and another in Game Art and Design. I'm taking a big risk changing professions to persue a passion.

Think I'm not a risk taker? I dated my HOT 23 year old highschool english teacher, for 2 years! She's a great story but also the one responsible for my jaded attitude.

I am happy with the car in it's current condition but I am getting the urge to Mod and I am unsure if I will be even happier with it or is it more headaches than it is worth? I don't want to miss out on a good deal and regret it latter. (Used Procharger installed $6,000) By the way the car is really just a weekend cruiser with my wife and a couple times a year to the drag strip. I know ultimately it is a choice only I can answer but good advise is welcome and appreciated.
You probably know this (and I don't mean any disrespect), but cars are not investments but money sinks.

Concerning paying it off: if you have a loan at one of those 2% rates, don't pay it off! Take the pay off money and put it into something that earns a rate higher than 2%. Now if the interest on loan is high, pay it off.

Resale value: I used to be in car sales. Trying to keep value in a car for resale is an exercise in futility. As long as you keep it clean and running right, you are at the mercy of the market and any difference you make is neglible in the long run. Now if you mod the crap out of it, forget it unless you are lucky - but most modders know its cheaper to buy used car and mod to their specs.

People like us just have more expensive hobbies .. that is all it boils down to ... if you can afford it and it makes you happy, go for it
