Default X pipes

Is it worth it to change from the stock H pipe to an X pipe? Someone told me that changing to an X pipe would reduce the drone of my B&B Route 66s. Thanks, Bob

Not drone, just some of the deceleration pop. I like mine with the bullets, but I got a great deal on it barely used.

Any good muffler shop can make you a good X pipe for a minimal cost.

I disagree, there is quite a bit of flow testing by the major exhaust manufacturers to produce an X pipe that flows properly.

You get what you pay for....

Don't get an X-pipe if you are going to get headers. The headers will need a different X-pipe with the cats in them.

The headers aren't legal, so why bother with cats?

Thanks guys. Long tube headers are illegal in California so that's not really an option for me. Other than the smog laws out here this is one of the best climates to run a Vette.

In Calif., if you install headers with high flow cats, as long as your car can pass the sniff test, you should be okay. Most corner smog stations don't know which headers are short or long or have a CARB #. They don't get under the car or lift it to see what's there. On the visual inspection, they are looking for things like missing or disconnected smog pumps/ hoses, crank case breathers etc. You don't have to smog it for six years, so the most you would have to do is replace the cats if they burn out or clog up.

If your lucky and no headers are CARB approved.

Well, I guess I'm lucky. I've had "illegal" headers on all my cars for over 25 years and have never had a problem.

Headers are illegal in California?!?!? WTF?!? You may have great weather, movie stars and beautiful girls but is it really worth having to deal with all the bureaucracy of the Peoples Republic of California?

NO I SAY!!
