Default Congrats On Solving Problem

ERIC I wish some of that 65' temp would come down here sooner rather than later. All we have is Hurrican season to look forward to now. Did you lose any of the computer settings when you disconnected the battery? I have to disconnect the power or batt. onmycomputers when they act up but thats another forum. Glad to hear that every thing is fine. Wish I could get my w/s wipers to malfunctiopn when I bring it to dealer. Thats also another thread.

The good ones always have 2 springs. The holes prevent AIR POCKETS. they also allow enough water to help prevent serious overheating. I just changed my 07 C6 to 160' it drastically lowered the temps from 203-208 to 183-189. this is my experience ,no reprograming in my case. no water wetter either. I do use the AC all the time and keep the dust out. I hope it works out for you try the holes, there is already one there with a swivel thing that must go IMOP
Drilling holes probably won't accomplish much because of the way the Corvette thermostat works. Most cars, especially older models, have the stat located on top of the engine, at the engine water outlet. We have it located low, at the engine water inlet.
Are you sure you have a "fail open" thermostat?

it is starting to sound like that, but I wonder why it started at the same time he changed thermostats.

Also if its the undertemp code, why is it saying that its hot??

In light of whats going on, I would send for a new 160* thermostat or put the stock one back in and see what happens.

I found a method off of this forum. It sounds weird, but you take the small rubber hose off the line from the driver's side head. You then take the cap off the coolant reservoir off, put your mouth over the opening and blow until coolant comes out of the tube. Please do not swallow any coolant! It worked great for me.

eric, try what glennhl suggested if that doesn't work, our service manuals it stated to hold your rpm at 2000 to get rid of air pockets. i got them too when i first put in 160 stat.

Hey, I got that tip off of this forum. This forum ROCKS!!!!! I discovered on my 94 Z28 what air pockets would do, almost immediate overheating.

Default Thermostat Checks When Installing

I don't think anyone mentioned about turning the heater all the way to hot to get air out of heater core. Also test the termostat on the stove to make sure it opens all the way. Also thermostats use to have a small bleed hole or notch to let trapped air get out when filling. Yes, don't put it in backwards, the bulb goes toward the engine or heat source. Watch your gauges while filling and run about 2k rpm. Aluminium block engines can overheat very, very quickly, it takes just minutes with little or low water circulation.

Turning on the heater won't help a bit- the coolant is always flowing through the heater core.
The bleed hole doesn't help either- the stat is not on the top of the engine.
You can't put it in backwards.

i have put on 100 miles on it and all is good. so I guess i must of had air pockets, seems they went away from running car at 2,000 rpm with res. cap off for a couple minutes.
