I'm sure this question has been asked more times than not, but bear with the "newbie" on this one.
2007 C6 6Speed. Window label says performance axle ratio.
Just enjoying the vehicle and not interested at this stage of my life in beating the rest of the world at each stoplight. (what am I doin here?)
From what I can tell the 3:90 differential ratio would liven up the gear changes and still give decent RPM's at 75-80 steady cruising?
I believe 4:10 would be too much?
I would like to eliminate some of the "dead zone" feel in the different gears. I miss the old close ratio trans and 4:11 feel that I had many moons ago in a '64 365 HP Convertible. In Northern NJ you are always driving in stop & go type situations and you're always running through the gears (which is fun). I'm going to be installing Borla Stingers and just a new final gear ratio for fun.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Same issue with me. I went 4.10 and did a 350 mile trip yesterday for the first time. I was pleased but being that the jury is still out (only have had the car 4 days since the install) I will reserve judgement.
I'm confused, as far as I know there was no performance axle for the 2007. Just the 342 for the manual and the 259 for the auto. The 2008 has a performance axle option for the auto but they didn't have that in 07.
The 3.42 rear end and 'base' transmission gearing is the same as in the C6 Z06....it is the close ratio transmission compared to the wider ratio Z51 transmission gearing (and there are advantages to this setup).
I can't imagine dead spots (even in the stock C6) but I can understand wanting a bit more power. IMO I'd suggest trying to get more performance from your engine versus changing the gear ratio in the rear end.
