I need your opinion on what mod I should do next. I have a 2005 Z51 6 speed current mods are B&B Bullets and VaraRam. I was thinking headers or a Dyno tune but not sure of my other options. Keep in mind I have a baby boy to be born any day now so my budget is limited. Thanks for your help

If you could spend the money I'd go for headers X-pipe and a tune.
If your just looking for something to do, The best mod that I've done so far has been the Callaway short shifter. Cheap and it makes a big difference.

I have an 07 Z51 6 speed manual. Took my car to Cartek. They did Kooks headers, catted (hi flo) x pipe, Callaway CAI, 160* thermostat and dyno tune. Huge difference - 384.5 rwhp, 373.7 tq. If you can spare a couple of grand, do the headers, x pipe, themostat and tune. It will be worth it. If you wanted a better bang for the buck, go with 4:10s. Or, if you can spare it, do both. I intend to do gears in the near future and expect that I will then break into the hi 11s.

If you are going to do the work, make the trip to Cartek, call Dave Busch and tell him "Mr. X" sent you.............

Congrats on the bambino.

Almost a Catch 22 situation. Every mod almost requires additional mods to function correctly. I did mufflers, then headers, then CAI, then a tune to get rid of the CEL, then a ported stock intake. 384RWHP, 382RWTQ, probably a little more if I re-tuned but the cost and downtime are holding me back.

For now enjoy your new son. Take him for a ride in the Vette. My first son came home from the hospital in our '63 Z06. That made him a car guy from the start.

That's cool. And, at best, only 199 sets of parents can make that statement.............

Got pics?

How much is the Kooks headers worth?
And how do they compare with other headers (eg. LG headers)?

You say your budget is "limited"??? Forget the mods and spend the money on the baby or open a savings account for him, or get a cash value insurance policy for him.

I don't know about gears for a z51.They're great for the base tranny but I don't for the z51 tranny.Might be too low.

4.10s in my Z51. Pulls like a freight train. Cartek put a C5 rear in mine.

Mike -

How have you been, how are my old Bullets treating you?

My opinion is leave it as is, but if you want to do something, do a 160 stat and a tune.
This will run you about $500.

YOu have to check out my Borlas.

Good luck to you, your wife, and soon to arrive son.

Howard
