....You '08 owners are just a little more lucky than us poor slobs.
It's all relative. Yes, I feel damn lucky to have an '08 with all the performance goodies, and I've already got almost 1200 miles on the car. And yes, it feels fast!
But I'll never look down on you folks with the old.......slow........dated............. yesterdays news..........LS........2s
Okay, I'm done gloating. Now the Z06 owners can have some fun at my expense

if it was me i would be gloating too!! i got to admit that's a real power house all you 08 owners are some lucky ********
Did you do any research before you bought it? We've been talking about the LS3 for way more than 2 months, and many people were expecting this "underrating", just like they did for the LT4 back in 1996.
I did find out about the coming LS3, I had not yet hopped on the forum yet to see this discussion, since I was pretty well informed about the LS2 (was looking at GTOs for a while). I didnt anticipate a HUGE underrating (400whp stock?!) like this. I just figured I could live without the 30 crank rated horsepower (thinking like 10-15 RWHP difference) and just make up the difference with a mod or two.
This is very painful. At least if I had an '05 I would have been driving that around for a while before this big hit.
Incredible numbers Zach on the stock '08. Wish I was there to witness the pulls. Looking forward to seeing the numbers after mods, and to get started on my own modding as well. See ya guys soon!
Assumption #2: LS2 400hp was based on old SAE protocol (ie. not as mounted in car) and when retested to new standard is actually 395. This "might" be the 395 listed in the LS2/LS3 comparison chart at the homecoming release. This reduction would actually jive with some other manufacturers. I can't think of any vehicles that went UP with no changes to the engine when tested on each procedure in subsequent years.
While it had no 'previous year model' to compare to, the C6 Z06/LS7 did in fact rise from 500hp to 505hp when going from the old standard to the new one with no other changes to the car/drivetrain.

Let's just recall tho that when the new, '08 car and engine were first being discussed, I think most of the info was about GM's displacement on demand engine. Am I recalling that correctly? If so, many/some might have dismissed the new claims of more power with, "Who wants an engine that cuts out under some conditions?"
Those are even higher numbers than LG posted for their test. Did this vehicle have the optional exhaust? Either the LS3 is underrated or the LS2 was overrated.
I agree those numbers make me want to cry but I don't think the LS2 was over rated. My car made 342 RWHP stock on an A6 unless there was less than 15% drivetrain loss then that puts me right at about 402 HP
If one is into keeping his/her C6 stock, the LS3 is the way to go. Same mods vs same mods, LS3 is going to be the winner. Always someone quicker though. One can still make the LS2 a beast. That's why I've had LS1 cars blast my slightly modded LS2 at the strip. I said earlier, this dyno is almost equal to my modded LS2, above 4000rpm at least. Down low, I've got up to 20rwtq and 15rwhp advantage. A tune might very well equal that and anything like long-tubes is going to best my car. Granted my numbers come from a different dynojet on a different day so it's kind of comparing red to green apples. On same day, same dyno, I could be the loser or the winner or tied. Dyno racing though but stock for stock, LS3 wins hands down.
Yeah, it appears that the only way to match the 08 LS3 with headers and tune is that the LS2 needs headers, CAI, cam and tune. A good tune on a LS3 with headers could put it between 430-435rwhp. You may have to add ported intake/tb or install the FAST intake to get those numbers. I'm at 379/366 with headers, CAI, ported intake/tb and tune. It is apparent that I better install the right cam in order to achieve 430rwhp. Actually, 420 rwhp would be sufficient for me.
