Default Time for first Tire Replacement....

Okay, my '05 C6, puchased in January '05, has 19,000 miles, and its time for new tires. I did about 6 weekend of AutoCross, and a few night at the local drag strip, therefore the tires are getting shot now at almost 20k. I plan on taking it easy with this next set, and plan on buying anothewr set to race with - but not these new ones.
I think I am just going with Factory Replacements. I have looked around, seems like TireRack.com is a good inexpensive place to get them. Approx $1,175 + shipping.
Anyone have any comments? Cheaper anywhere else? Has anyone dropped the EMT Runflat, and just gone with Fi Eagle?

Tire Rack usually has pretty good prices. If you want to purchase locally, you might check prices and see if they are in the ball park.

I just replaced my Goodrocks with the Tirerack Firestone Wide Oval Runflats on my 2006 C6 which were $940.00 and I love them. They are much quieter than the Goodyear, great ride and hold the road well. My OEM tires gave up the ghost at 14.9K, so I decided to try another tire. You may want to consider these if you are not stuck on the OEM. Other folks can comment if this is not the right direction.

I went through my first set of the Z51 Supercar tires in 9,000 miles. Too much fun I guess. I did replace with the same OEM TPC Supercar tire. I know the tires are noisy and stiff, but when I consided all of the other factors I still believe they are the best tire for the Z51 C6.

I just replaced the Goodyears with Firestones on my Z51. So far they are quieter and better in the rain. Cant say about milelage but definately more cost effective up front.

The incredible safety factor of run flats if you have a blowout at speed should be considered.
Especially with the ever increasing amount of road debris out there.

If it means more control, or avoiding loss of control, Yeah, run flats for me forever.

At 3K miles: screw right through the tread. Was able to get it fixed for a reasonable price at a Tire World, believe it or not. This event doesn't necessarily deter me from non-runflats, but it sures makes me want to think about it a little before I jump into that arena.

I have Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's in combination with Z51 sway bars and Koni FSD shocks. Great combination of ride and handling. 1.1 G's on the highway ramp. Quiet too. Not sure they are going to last 20k miles, but at least they don't slide around like the GY Runflats.

My Z51 is due for a change and I am leaning toward the Firestones. Have you noticed any changes in handling and cornering compared to the GY Supercars?

When you decide what tire, just print out the best online price and take it into your local Discount Tire and they will usually match it.

I got drag radials from Discount tires.
They beat Tire Racks price, and shipped for free.

I've driven about 500 miles now on the firestones and pushed it a few times. handling seems fine compared to the GY's.
My guess is you would have to a very experienced driver to find the differences in handling.
Slipping seems predictable and haven't found any surprises.

Funny you should ask. I'd gone 7-8 years without a flat when I bought the car. I've had two flats in 11K miles in the Vette. I'll be going with the firestones soon. There was a post a while back about the firestones giving a little more warning when they're at their adhesion limit, unlike the GY's which tend to let go real fast. Another thing to consider for autocross/HPDE/ETC.

My last flat was one year ago on the runflats. Got it patched and have drag raced and autoxed on it over the past year with no problems. Seems I'm always picking up nails and screws as I walk across parking lots. We have 6 cars and someone is always picking up a nail but it's almost always a slow leak.
