Rearview Mirror Upgrade
I am a newbie to the site and have recently purchased a C6 LT1. Does anyone know if the rearview mirror with compass is a plug and play for a LT1 package. I have reviewed the sunvisor upgrade threads relating to homelink and plan to make that mode soon and relieve my sun visor of the clip on garage door opener. I believe even the newer non homelink will be fine for me. I did not find much on the rearview mirror. I have seen several for sale at a reasonable price here. I believe they had on-star also. I have ordered the manuals and hope to find schematics, they have not arrived yet. Thanks in advance for any information on the subject.
Thanks,
TLCJ
Please post your findings on the mirror, as I am interested in the same thing. Thanks! I have seen a reference to a compass and auto dimming mirror w/o the onstar as well. There is one for sale with onstar in the parts thread for $130. Not sure that would be plug and play. Maybe an extra module somewhere. I am from Florida originally on the east coast. Satellite Beach. LOL

Re the Onstar, I believe it also has to have an antenna. I am not really interested in the Onstar portion. Please keep us posted.
Here is what I get so far
1 white controls map lights when you open the doors etc.
3 tan/black and 4 pink deal with the SIR lights(Air BAG lights)
5 and 16 I do not have and are for the outside dimming mirror.
9 i do not have and goes to reverse lamps???? Any ideas?
13 is pink and is power
8 is ground and black
I understand 2005 won't work because of the SIR lights. Just would like to know what my options are if a 2006 is parted out with compass and dimming and onstar or not. I will keep looking through manual.
I don't see the compass anywhere in manual yet. No onstar schematics either. I will keep trying. I have also sent a note to gmpartshouse for options. I have a message waiting there, but I am unable to log back in due to security. Will try from home tonight.

Gene has the part number. Runs about 2 bills. Gene is a good guy and can usually deliver what you need. Will also see if anythng you wnat to do can be done.
Enough said. Should have called Gene earlier and saved the time.
Good Luck to you!
I read all of those posts before asking my questions. Just the proper thing to do on any forum. As I said earlier, I have contacted Gene as well for pricing and availability on a new one. There have been several for sale on this site in the other sections with the onstar capability. I know the 2005 will not work with a 2006, 2007 car because of SIR. I just need as many details as possible before I make any changes. Nothing wrong with looking the schematics over. Still wonder why a backup light wire is shown on some models in mirror? If onstar is self contained unit, maybe I will add that in too. It was not why I started looking at it, but might be a nice tag along. Thanks
You can also add the integrated homelink in the visor. Gene has the visors for this as well.
Let us know how it works out.
Gene did get back to me and the mirror new w/o onstar buttons is available no problem. I was finally able to locate the schematics on the mirror with onstar and learned the following. The mirror is just 3 switches as far as on-star is concrned. The wires are pins 11,12,14, and 15. You could use these switches for anything you like if you were customizing. Since these wires are missing from my car anyway i could get the used mirror with onstar and it would work just fine as far as I can see (switches hook to nothing). These switches do have a small line resistor in series if you decide to play! I don't like switches that don't do anything but was considering hooking these switches to my 3 button garage door opener and killing 2 birds with one stone. I have all the details i need and want to thank all for their input. Especially gene.
Thanks,
Terry

Sorry I was away for the weekend. What ken said is true. I do not have the wires that feed the drivers outside mirror or the wire that comes from the backup system. That said, you can still add the mirror and the only real missing feature is when you go into reverse. Thanks for the info on the backup wire. I assumed that was the deal, but was only guessing. As I said earlier, the mirror with on-star just has 3 switches in it for onstar that run to other electronics through wires that are not in my harness. The wiring harness is different!
