Default 3.15 gears

After much thought and recs I got the 3.15s for my A6. All I can say is THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE THIS FROM THE FACTORY. Great mod.
Synergy( a CF vendor) did the work and calibrations. BTW First gear is NOT useless.
Thanks to all that helped me with this decision.

Reading your thread is a definite morale boost as I'm going to be installing my 3.15 differential this weekend.

Are you still running the factory converter? I'll be putting in a 3000 stall converter along with the gears so I'm hoping for a big difference.

Although I would have preferred to do some of the mods separately (in total I'm doing a cam, CAI, headers, differential, converter and drag radials all at once) I just don't have time to run it to the shop multiple times for tuning.

So exactly what are some of the differences that you end up feeling?

I see you have a 06 A6 vert. My 05 A4 vert came with the upgrade to 3.15. I don't think it is that great, course I didn't have the stock gears to compare it to.

I'm upgrading to 3.73, stall/converter and cooler next week.

the stock set up seems bogged down and lazy. Now the car seems more responsive and eager. Hope that helps. It is hard to put into words--sorry.

No need to apologize as I can completely relate to what you mean. My friend has an 06 Z and after driving his car around for a bit, it actually made mine feel slow in comparison.

I've often thought that the car felt a little lethargic at times so hopefully I'll think the same thing as you after I get it tuned next week.

This is something I might be interested in. I put 3.90's on my "00 FRC M6 and it really woke it up...

But I have a question...
I have an '07 A6. would a change like this do anything funky with the 'puter or will there be any downside or things to be concerned about?

I sure would like to know how much you pick up in the 1/4 mile. Plus I'd like to know if it shifts to 4th during your run.

Yeah having 3.15s with an A4 trans is not quite the same as having 3.15s with an A6...3.15s in an A6 will likely feel more like a 3.90 rear would in an A4.

Actually it will feel more like 4.82's. 1.53 x 3.15 = 4.82

It will definitely shift to 4th at the very top of the track.
