Okay, the FAQ has nothing on how to trailer a Vette and I am 3.5 weeks away from moving. I plan on trailering the '05 and have a few questions. Maybe, with enough experience, we can get this thread added to the FAQ.

This Thread is for drive-up, flatbed style trailers, and how to do it. NOT TOWING. Penske, Budget and (God forbid) Uhaul all rent flatbed trailers. We need specific numbers and models, sizes, etc.

Some questions that I have seen that we need to nail down:
Leave it in gear or in Neutral? In Park for Autos?
Parking brake on or off?
Tie down to the frame, suspension, or tires?
'05s, do you have to disconect the battery while trailering?

If you have some experience, pipe in. I need the help and I'm sure the Forum will too!

Nate

A little help on keywords to search, pls? I'm also trying to learn more about trailering (and sources for trailers), for a Museum delivery pick up. I've been spectacularly unsuccessful in finding all the threads of which you speak, so I must be using the wrong words/word groups. Thanks!

I've towed C5's and C6's with my trailer. 24 open trailer. 5ft slide out ramps. I use "T" hooks that attach to the "jacking puck" holes in the frame. Cross strapes ie.. passanger side front t hook goes to drivers side front trailer tie down, X pattern. Check the C5 section, numerous trailer threads, tow straps, hook types, and trucks to tow with.

One of the most important things I can think of for a newbie trailering a Vette is be very careful loading and offloading to not rub the bottom of the nose on the ramp. Some trailers require you to lay down some wood to drive up on before the ramp to elevate the front of the car so the nose won't touch the ramp or the ground. Also make sure the trailer fenders are removeable, fold down, or are low enough so the car door won't hit the fender when you open it. I trailer my cars in park or first with the ebrake on. Did I say tie it dwn good and tight with locking straps and don't tie down to suspension parts.

I own a couple of Uhaul dealers and have not had a problem trailering my C5 ZO6 or my C6. You do need to be careful with the front end and use some boards under the ramps. The Uhaul trailers will provide straps for the front tires that work really well. Also, you will find two safety chains one at the front and one at the back. I usually take the rear safety chain up and through the rear suspension. The front one I am able to carefully sneak through the metal bumper guard on the front of the car. Other than that leave the car in gear and set the parking brake. I don't know if you are towing your car with a moving truck but if you plan to rent one of these trailers without a moving truck I believe Uhaul will be your only choice since the others will only rent their Auto Transports with their trucks.

This was a fun picture we took for a Uhaul Contest, my C6 does not really have a hitch!

been trailering for some time now.

T-hooks in the suspension is the way to go.

Make sure you have a good tow vehicle and electronic brakes on the trailer would be a very good idea.

Take the trailer out on a trip before you load the car on it. Try to find a parking lot that you can practice in.

here is my setup

The fenders over the driver side tires on a Uhaul trailer fold down. I forget if it gave me proper clearance for the door to swing open or not on my car, but I don't remember climbing out the window so i think it will clear.

Race Ramps makes Trailer Ramps to assist with the loading into trailers. This ramp pictured, along with two other models of trailer ramps can be seen here.

I am getting an enclosed trailer like that one. Where did you get those ramps? Are they needed to keep bottom from scrapping, and where do you put them while you tow?
