It is a special Vortex cleanable filter with filtration material at the tip and the sides. We even have a merge cone on the inside to increase velocity.

Cleaning the filter at about 10,000 miles

Another happy BPP Vortex customer here. All three of my Vettes have had them. The C6 version is very carefully thought out.

Just came back from Moroso drag strip....Hot muggy night. Just took off my OEM air intake and my Vetteair. My car is a 08 LS3, A6 with melrose headers, SLP cat back and a Mike Norris tune. Just added the the BPP Vortex and beat my best previous time by .2 and ran a higher top speed. New best for my car 11.9 @118mph. Previous best 12.1 @ 116mph. Similiar race conditions (DA 2500). Can't wait for some cooler conditions. Car was not retuned after the Vortex was installed. I think that extra air from the Vortex helped me achieve this improvement.

I'm glad you caught this post. I was on my way to tell you in person, but I got side tracked. My 60' was the same as before but the Vortex helped in both mph and ET. DA2500 WHICH WAS IDENTICAL TO MY LAST TRACK DAY. The improvement was about .2 of a second and the top speed also improved by 2MPH. And yes you could use me in a testimonial.

Well I guess that proves again that the Vortex will give you big HP #'s to get you 2 tenths and 2 mph faster in the 1/4 mile without a tune for it!!

I know on most CAI there is a risk of cutting the AC condensor or whatever. You said the placement was different is there the same risk of cutting the condensor?

I can tell you no it does not. The VR has only about 20 sq inches of area in there scoop opening for air flow to enter where the Vortex Ram has about 100sq inches. The Vortex system has been proven on the track to produce greater hp gains by all our customers.

We also have less of a tendency of injecting water into the intake by having the box opening at the highest point and not low to be scooped in.

Default BPP Vortex Rammer

I have owned two of them now. One for my 1997 6-speed coupe and now one for 2006 Z51 6-speed coupe. Both are clear. Also, I cut the opening in the shroud. Both were easy installs. I highly recommend this CAI. Personally, I like the clear unit, mainly because I can see if it has become loose, dirty or if there are any papers or other junk that might have been sucked up in the cavity. This has not been a problem, but peace of mind means alot.
This has been the one mod that I know has made a big difference in the performance of my car.

I do like the look of this system but can someone please post a picture of the lower portion of this system. The pics on the site show the top of the system but I can't find any showing where the air is "rammed" in.

thanks in advance!

I had a Vortex on my '99 and later swapped it for a VR. As far a performance, I never experienced any better times. I put a VR on my '06 & the car runs great. However, the reason I chose it was price. I can testify the Vortex filter is much easier to clean & service. It's a very good product & you can't go wrong with one.

yep, people need to get over the cost issue as the LS3 uses z06 type intakes and they all cost the same if not more than the vortex. I should be ordering mine next week with any luck.

When you purchase the Vararam for the LS3, you must purchase the ZO6 model, much more expensive than the standard C6. BPP Vortex also came with a coupler that replaces tha stock accordian hose(nice touch). On the bling side--very sexy--carbon fiber one piece Vortex bridge and I chose the clear air box rather than the carbon fiber. This unit appears to be well engineered and appears to have the largest opening in the shroud (10x10)---so that fresh cold air can do its job.

precut is a gimmick, what you do is you cut your schroud and then you have a cut schroud. You go to Gene at gmparts direct or your local stealer and buy a shroud. Now you will have an uncut shroud.

I have one and love it. i have to remove it because I am adding a procharger. PM me if you would like it. I also bought two extra filters. I will give you a good deal. Spare filters were 50 each and system was about 500. It was my first mod and It was great.
