Because it's still less expensive than a Z06. There's between $11-15K to play with and that's buying a used Z06.

No question the Z is a monster if you have the funds!

Ive had a 2007 Z06 5,000 miles ( crashed it forever ) now I have a 07 C6 Z51 w/ 13,000 miles ( lemon law / drivetrain ). I'm going to get a 2008 C6 Z51 by x-mas. I Will have to pick up the conversation then.

I think based on what ive read and heard, the 80 C6 LS3 with Z06 tires, brakes and rear wide body kit and upgraded suspension would be just right. It would look Z06y, sound mean and hook up the best. Not the fastest but right in the middle. Just my new thought.

The LS2 has performed well, but the LS7 was crazy...too bad i ran out of talent.

guess what guys !
after adding all stuff into my car
and raced the zo6
and as i post what happened in the race !
my friend just called me now !
he wanna buy Performance kit !
i disagree with him ,, cuz honestly !
i beleive zo6 just need an exhust + headers and tune
i think that is enough for it !

i think my friend is gone mad ,,, he wanna buy a AFR heads + Camshaft
but the thing it ,, Tuning
can the tune be sent by email ? and can it be perfect ?
i mean zo6 + camshaft blaah blaah + headers Blaaah and cutback borla for example
can all the information been sent to the tuner and he sent the tune back and it will be perfect ?
or the tuner must tune the car by using the dyno ?

post me a replay cuz we wanna work with this Zo6
cheers guys

Anybody? My car is lacking in torque and HP between 2000 to 3500 RPM when compared to a Z06. I'm not sure what you can do to a normally aspirated LS2 to bring up torque and HP on the lower end.

Instead of doing heads on my car, I may save my money and put in a forged 427 lower end. I expect my lower torque numbers would come up. The quest for more HP never ends. I believe I need to joing some support group that deals with people addicted to HP and Torque.
I agree with every thing Joe said. What I like to do is build the engine for Mid to High range and then add gears and sticky tires for the low end. Then learn how to launch it. But if the ZO6 car did the same...The ZO6 will KICK ASSSSSSS.

The dealer wanted my 2006 C6 + $42,000 for a Z06. I thought I could do a few engines mods for about 1/4 of thet cost and boost HP substantially.

I have all the mods you have listed with the exception of ported heads and I am $6,300 into my engine project. I'm wondering if heads will make up the difference in low end torque where I fall short when compared to the LS7? I'm at 446 RWHP and 404 RWTQ. If the LS2 cannot be built to be comparable to the LS7, I wonder why we do not see more LS7 engine transplants? It appears some members posts in this thread it is believed that no matter what you do do to your LS2 including stroking it, you will never reach the power of the LS7. I do not quite understand that.

Does GM sell the LS7 short block and if so how much does it cost? I have only seen the LS7 Crate engine for $12,500. I'm not sure I want to sink over $3K into heads with installation if I am still falling short of my goals. I'm think my next mod will be more in the area of adding cubes maybe 427...
If you got a set of good AFR's or ETP heads you'd pick up 30 tq pretty easy, which would put you at stock Z levels. But you'll be pretty maxed out N/A that way.

Here's my buddy's max 364 build. He could have got a few more tq had he used 205 heads but he had the 225's already.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ng+up+the+wick

Here's another good write up about heads on a cammed car:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1836631

If you want more than Z perf you need to add cubes. I just read an article that Katec is putting out a very inexpensive 427 short block, you might look into that.

2 buddies of mine just built 402's to 515/465 or so (including gtodoug). Now the problem is traction. Street tires are useless to the point of dangerous. My buddy got traction at the track 2 weeks ago... and cracked his C5 case clean in half. If you want to keep upping the power you better plan on upping the clutch and rear... so budget for that.

Gotta love that Z. Just awesome. But I drive with the top down to and from work 5 days a week year round, and race 2 nights a month. You can understand my math!

I do respect the drivers who can get a manual to these times too. I have tried to hone my skills but I just can't eke a 1.5 out of my car and 1.6's are rare.

There are two showroom stock, but on drag radials, into the 10s, at two different tracks, in two different cities, over 1 year apart. And a third one just missing the 10s by .01 sec, with nothing other than drag radials. Stock everything else.

gentelmen
this subject was a very intresting one
C6 vs Zo6
i am back to open this subject again
because i figured out some new facts

as i told u that i raced my friend Zo6 and i couldnt win the race
i didnt race any other zo6 in the street
but once i was driving my c6 with camshaft + underdrive pully + slp intake and long tube headers
i saw a Zo6 with Cuback + xpipe and intake in the front + tune
so i raced him
and i guess i won the race
so i figured that my friend Zo6 is not a normal one ! ( mashalla )
but now i just added magnachanrge
and i will race zo6
and i hope i can post some vidoes ,,, but after i get some new tires ,,

so to give hope for all people who want to race Zo6 N/A
do it guys !
if you feel you cant ,,, just get 50 NOS

i think you need to get tune for much better performance ,,
your system is Rich by fuel man
you need to fix your tune ,,, i beleive !
but the numbers are nice ,,
i think you can get extra 20 HP and 15 Trq by adjusting the tune

i am not sure but i think that ,,

you can ask an expert guys and post your dyno sheet for them
