Woa, 20ft/lbs

I would not go beyond 18 ft/lbs and even less than that with a greased bolt.

I retorque after three over night cool downs. After that I check them a couple times a year and never had one work loose.

I looked at those other threads concerning broken bolts and torque wrenches. No one mentioned what brand or type of torq wrench they were using. Most of the 3/8" wrenches have a range starting at 10 ft/bs to 100 ft/lbs and they are inherently inaccurate at the lower end of the scale. Also I have found Sears Craftsman to be a POS, and then there are the Harbor Freight JUNK. All of my wrenches are Snap On, some are the beam and lever a couple spring click type but all my current wrenches has been replaced with their new electronic wrenches. These are by far the most accurate TQ wrenches I have ever used and they are repeatable from day to day.

I can't even tell you how many headers I have installed here in my shop, and using my trusty Snap On electronic TQ wrench I have never ever broken a GM exhaust manifold bolt.

The only TQ wrenches I recommend are those made by Precision Instrument who makes them for Snap On, Cornwell and others and their own name brand. Yes they cost a heck of a lot more than Sears or Harbor Freight, but for me there is no other wrench!
