If it makes you feel better to turn it off, by all means do so. But that isn't a license to go WOT and not get yourself in any trouble.
I dont go WOT on wet roads, learned not to do that years ago! And i dont go WOT with cars next to me, sometimes i like to give my car a short WOT burst if i am first at a traffic light, that means up to the speed limit and then i back off.
Before i had TM removed i could just go around and pass a car without a problem, but now the car just wants to downshift and just flat out take off.

OK. I misunderstood you. I thought you were just looking to be able to stomp on it in any situation.

I agree with you that the neck-snapping acceleration can be a bit unnerving on corners and wet pavement. However, manuals have the same issue. The difference, is that when you drive an M6, you have absolute control on how the power is applied. In an A6, you aren't sure just when the tranny will downshift...and will it be a single or double downshift? That randomness make it more exciting/scary, and possibly more dangerous. That is one reason I drive 80% of the time with the paddles. I want to know when it's going to shift.

If you havent turned it off yet, try driving around in D. I've found it's much less aggressive than S.

Exactly! You said it perfectly. At full throttle in an M6 you still have the clutch to control how hard it shifts. I will also use the Paddle Mode when I want to guarantee I only get one gear with the downshift. Then if that's not enough you can go for a 2nd downshift.

I've noticed they have a forums section at the hptuners site. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but if the community comments there are enough to get me to understand how to use the device I may decide to get one.

They have a demo section on their website which is OK. It shows you *what* to do but not necessarily *why*.

Like I said, check out the forums site there. If that makes you feel like you can get a good or better understanding (heck, even basic is ok) then it may make getting one and doing very basic changes less scary.

Hell, I can't even go past 1/5 to 1/4 throttle on a wet road with a stock tune without the rear kicking out. I can't imagine what'll be like with TM lessened.

Hmmm...the only time my car has driven in the rain was the day after I bought it (got caught by surprise) and then one other day in a light rain when I took a chance and drove it even though it looked like it may get ugly. Hey, garage queens need to make an appearance every now and then :o
