Default New Best Times

Made it back to Beech Bend last night to take advanage of some slightly better weather than last time. My stock 08 a6 2.56 base suspension now has 2,100 miles on it. It had 600 miles on it the first time at the track...

Tire pressures were left at 30psi cold..

1st run... All nannies off, no burnout, left at idle, is s mode, no paddles...78 degrees out and 180 eng temp...60 = 1.97 1/8 = 8.04@90.37 1/4 12.34@115.97

2nd run, same as above with light power brake. It spun, then got wheel hop at the top of first, then went sideways when it hit second...I backed out..60ft = 2.13 1/4 = 18.96@54

3rd run... after an 1.5 hour wait from the second run and being spooked on the 2 run I left all the nannies on... 72 degrees, 160 engine temp...60ft 2.01 1/8 = 8.12@89.95 1/4 = 12.44@115.23

Tommy if you could move me up on the Showroom Stock list....Thanks

Next month I got a track rental(sorry no open spots) and will try to get an 11 second number with the fuse in then.

This car should be the #2 car on the "showroom stock" list. Removing the fuse is a sound mod not a performance mod. Removing air in the tires is not considered a mod, removing a fuse should not be either. Plus he also ran a 12.12 with the fuse in, proving there is no performance gain. This gentleman should be credited with having the second quickest stock car and quickest A6 on the list.

It isn't? Then why are the NPP exhaust equipped cars rated at 6hp more?
Yes the exhaust valves open on their own anyway but not until 3500rpms I think it is. If they're not a performance mod then I guess removing cats or putting a freer flowing muffler isn't as well?

Now I'm not so obtuse as to actually believe that it really makes that much of a difference or that the car couldn't have still run the number with the fuse in (as the owner even said it did), I know that it can/will. It's just there has to be a line drawn on stock versus altered and if this is fuse removal (or one of the Mild to Wild switches/devices) is allowed then what happens when the next guy wants passenger seat and/or entire cat back exhaust removal allowed in as well?
If that's the case then I'm taking the Vararam off, pulling the seat, radio and glove box lids out and going back out there in search of "bone stock" 12.1s/12.0s.

I personally have no problem with his results being allowed on and I can almost assure that this same car/same driver will be posting an even quicker stock time very soon, even with the fuse in, but the list says bone stock, not bone stock with a few things unplugged or added on.
This is done to maintain some integrity not just for those already on the lists but for those in the future (including yourself) vying to get on it as well.

Tire pressures you ask?
The factory sets them one way but I would have to bet that NOT ALL 30k+ Corvettes leave the factory with identical pressures in their four tires so there really are no 'stock standard' pressures to begin with. And what if one of the tires has a slow leak/loses a little air and you refill it, or if one is set at 45psi by accident from the factory and you let some out, that's no longer factory air pressure either and THAT'S why something like tire pressures aren't questioned/factored into this stock list thing.

I agree that there has to be a line drawn somewhere, but pulling a fuse to open up the exhaust which opens up itself at 3500 rpm's is kinda nit-picking. I say move the line past pulling a fuse.

What about someone who installs a mild to wild switch (that performs the same/similar function), do you agree that should be allowed as well?
I'm not disagreeing with you on this, I too feel that the line could be moved up a little, just asking.
Maybe it should be a poll or vote.

Of course it does open the door to some people then saying that swapping in a K&N air filter (flows MUCH better than a stock LS3/Z06 filter) is perfectly fine...then it's gutting the cats...then it's cut outs in front of the mufflers...and so on...

As per GM, the 6 hp gain is at 5900 rpm, way up in the powerband. Below 5000 rpm the gain is negligible. Also, the exhaust valves are open by the 60 foot mark under full throttle. So basically, the exhaust valve is open whether the fuse is in or not, for 90% + of the 1/4 mile. Any measureable gain in the 1/4 would be in thousanths of a second....not even worth mentioning, unless somebody cared about the difference between a 12.121 and a 12.123.

Good points.
I'm all for it, let 'fuse removal' in.

THE LIST

Regarding correction factors:
Times are received from all over the country and are not corrected. Because track and weather conditions vary, this list ranking does not, and can not, identify the fastest cars or drivers in any particular order. It only lists the recorded times, regardless of conditions, in order from quickest to slowest. In cases where ET is the same, the higher MPH determines list order.

You can tell when they tack the track. You can hear the tires. When you role up into the beam.

Last time we were out. Our 60ft was way off. High 1.2'S

and 1/8 WERE OFF BYE 6-9 tenths. Tires were just spinning. Still went 8.50's at 160mph. Track wasn't there.

It's nice to go on rental days. They put lots of tack down

Every few days up to as much as a week or two.

Tommy can get quite busy with the business he is in so he can't visit here all day like some of us do but he will take care of any posts/updates that are made and we do all fully appreciate and praise his efforts.
In the case of the slip/entry that you show above, that was not the normal procedure for posting a slip so it might need a little more information before being put on the list. I am helping gather that info as we speak.
