Very interesting that you asked that today...up until my very last pass last night I've always left in the 'S' auto for the burnout (just as I race it in) but I started noticing that it goes through the gears and has a bad drop off as it hit 2nd or maybe it's 3rd gear as I'm doing it. On my last pass I decided to click down to 2nd using the paddles and do the entire burnout in that gear and it worked well.
Only problem now is remembering all of that, hitting the TC/AH button, pulling it into 'S', engaging the paddles, clicking to 2nd, immediately after the burnout remembering to shift it back into 'D' and then back down to 'S' and all this while they're waving ya up to the line!

Yes, I left at idle on all passes but on the best pass I also just lightly rested on the gas pedal a little bit and then just nailed it as I released the brakes when the lights came down.
Great tips, thanks! So if I back into the water box, do I then go forward a little before I start the burnout?

Yes, if the track will let you that is the only way to make sure you don't carry any water up to the line. Some tracks frown upon that practice.

Welcome.
Yes, but like Tony said we can't execute that 'back into it' procedure at a track like Englishtown (and no way around the water at all at Atco) on a normal track day, even if you're quick about it they will yell at ya LOL.
As far as pulling a bit forward after wetting the rears, I do that as to get as far away from the drippings or rollout water path as possible as to not 'rewet' the tires but I know others actually do their burnouts right on the edge of the puddle, that you have to experiment with maybe.

Video of my 10.85 pass.

My thanks to Chris who shot this video in his first two minutes after being handed my HD camcorder. Editing is mine.

Great Run Ranger....I wish you could teach me how to launch on these drag radials. I have the same as you 315-35-17 BFG, and I either spin and hop, or bog. I cant seem to find the happy medium. I tried 4k and feathering, 4k and dumping, 3.5k and feathering, 3.5 k and dumping, 3k both and so on...ran about 15 runs tonight, best 60' was 1.86. Tried 22lbs, tried 19 lbs, and even 16 lbs

The air wasnt very good tonight the DA was around 1000 ft temps in the low 70's with about 86% humidity.

Best pass of the day went like this

60' 1.867
330 5.236
1/8 7.994
MPH 90.69
1000 10.343
1/4 12.320
MPH 113.65

I had 2 runs in the 12.3xx and the rest were in the low 12.4's right around 113.5-114.5 range.

Not too shabby for the weather. Guess Ill have to wait for a better day for 11's Need one of those 45 Deg. days!

BTW, for all interested, i found this density altitude calculator here...
http://wahiduddin.net/calc/calc_da.htm

also ,they have an engine tuners calculator based on DA that seems pretty accurate too...(obviously in a very basic form, many other factors to consider too)
http://wahiduddin.net/calc/calc_hp_dp.htm

I have just been using the information from weather.com to fill in the blanks. The track at baytown is something around 12 ft above sea level!!!

Please describe your procedure for heating the drag radials.

I drive around the water box, back up into it, light them up, hold the brake, spin them at 5k rpm for about 10 seconds, go to line. They are PLENTY hot!! I watched your 10.85 run and it sounded as if the car bogged a bit, even though it was moving out quite nicely. Maybe since i dont have as much power, i need more RPM, then feather it....It dead hooked once at 4k rpm and bogged to a 1.90 60'

Are you spinning the tires in the water?

This vid shows the burnout sequence pretty well.

Most of the time, i roll out of the water, then spin them, every once in a while when not paying attention, i spin them in the water.

Check the vid ^^^.

I just get the wheels damp and pull forward to the barely damp area to spin them.

The LS7 clutch will not reliably take a launch rpm above 3600.

I've not driven the LS2 clutch. But in practice the preference is to capture as much of the flywheel inertia as the clutch will permit.

With that said, each clutch (eg LS2) has its own personality. It capability limits are generally bounded by the range of driver accomplishments. If anyone is getting low 1.7s, then it's possible to achieve.

I found the lower limit of an LS6 clutch on a stock 2002 was 1.60.

So I suggest determining what is the lowest 60' in your exact configuration. Then shoot for meeting or exceeding that one.

Car with more power, a tune, a different clutch are excluded.

On the runflats , i never did a smoky burn out...just spun them good enough to clean the tires. Others have said to heat them up, but i never did

How do I enter mine? I'll just post it.

My car is a 2006 Z06 with an Air charger, halltech filter, LG headers, 160 degree stat and a tune. My best before being kicked off the track is below. I ran an 11.281@125.6 on BFG drag radials. Bone stock with no mods I ran an 11.9@125. Just for curiosity sake I ran the standing mile at a best of 178.33.

C5pilot -

Nice run!

On the DRs, how did you launch?

As you know, I am having a handful on my BASE runflats.

1500rpms got me a 2.14 the 1st time but bogged to a 2.4 the 2nd time
1700-1750 got me a 2.09
2000rpms spun and got me a 2.3
