New best 12.570 @ 112.20. Hot August day, 90 degrees, 61% humidity.

Only change was I practiced my shifting based on this thread from Ranger:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1424699

I had a big problem going from my C5 shifter to the C6 until I practiced, now I can shift my C6 just as fast.

Thanks! Yes, just a new best for me personally! I don't stack up to some of the hot shoes on this forum. I did back it up with a 12.618, 12.678 and 12.734 so I was running pretty consistent (for a 6 speed guy that is). Automatic guys are laughing at that spread.

That's a solid improvement Joe_G. Continued shifting practice will pay additional benefits. The more the shifts are essentially automatic, the more you can focus on the shift points wherein 2-3 tenths are still up for grabs. The process involves the continuous identification and elimination of wastage.

MZ6 is the option code for 6 speed manual car with Z51.

MM6 is the option code for the 6 speed manual without it.

Both use the Tremec T56 6pseed manual. However the Z51 equipped car (MZ6) has more aggressive transmission gearing, through gears 1,2,3 for quicker acceleration.

Thanks Ranger! I do find the shifting is becoming more "automatic" where I don't think about it. That is how I get my best R/T's and 60's also - if I try to think too hard about any of it I screw it up. Works that way for me with golf, shooting or even typing also. I guess that's the practice of the repetitive motions taking over.

So you are saying I can find 2-3 tenths in shift points? So far the best results have been shifting all at redline, in fact I tapped the limiter briefly on the 3-4 on the best time. Anytime I go less on any shift I'm much slower, usually 2-3 tenths. What did you find to be optimal shift points?

Missed you there Craig. I got in 19 runs, 10 in my Vette, 9 in my Hurst/Olds. That's my 2nd open test day and they are the reason I'm running so much faster than I used to. You've got my spreadsheet... look how slow I used to be! Practice makes perfect (or close in this game). One test day and you'll be running right next to me no problem. As you know I also owe a lot to reading Ranger's threads.

I'll tell you one thing though.... those pesky C5 LS6's sure have more top end than us. I ran next to JohnSea06 all day and he handed me my behind every time if he was close at 1000 ft. I had to tree him good to beat him.

I'm scheduled for headers, trans brace, hardened shaft & 3:90's on Wednesday. Might go for a little lower than 1.8's with that setup . My goal is 11's with these mods only. Trying to avoid camming this car, the smooth idle and mindless starting and running is hard to give up.

As close to the limiter as possible without kissing it. The 1-2 requires the most careful anticipation because the revs come so fast. But there is often a difference between intented and actual shift points. The goal of improvement is to eliminate that delta.

Another tip for the manual trans guys, if you're not powershifting you're losing time also. With every manual trans car that I've drag raced, I've gotten at least 2 tenths of a second improvement by powershifting, compared to letting off the gas between shifts. The most important shift change to powershift is the 1-2, if you can at least do that one, that's where most of your improvement comes from.

I've never powershifted any car in my life, not worth beating up my tranny and clutch IMHO.

Of course, I always mention my times are grannyshifted.

If you want to powershift and get those extra strengths, by all means go for it!

Some will also argue that properly powershifting a T-56 can actually be better for trans longevity than the more traditional lifting between shifts during hard acceleration, not sure though for I am an automatic guy LOL.

Key word is properly power shifting. In my opinion done well it does not hurt anything. You can also shift without a clutch and not harm a vehicle if done properly by an expert.

Unfortunately most will tear the he11 out of their vehicle learning how.
