Actually, running the best time means exactly that, you have run the 1/4 mile faster than anyone anywhere regardless of conditions.
Does this mean you have the fastest car?
Of course not, it just means in favorable conditions your car has run the best time.
We are VERY FORTUNATE to have ATCO, a very fast - sea level track, in our backyard
I acknowledge that although my C6 Vert ran a 12.57 at ATCO, it could easily lose a race to a guy who runs 13.0 in Colorado.
But, I agree, the timeslip is what it is, the fastest time in the 1/4 mile regardless of where it happens.
Howard
I didn't think it had anything to do with tracks or conditions. It was my understanding that all the good drivers live near ATCO or Englishtown and all the sucky drivers live in Colorado, Arizona, etc.
If anyone wants to make the list we have a track rental coming up. This is a great track for mph. I trapped 120 here with headers. It's also a great time to learn and/or practice....

Texas is fairly well represented. My car has 6000 miles on it now so it might be worth the trip to Houston this fall. My car ran the 12.65 in 2000 foot air and a 20 mph head wind. I am pretty sure I could better my time in -500 foot air. So let the fun begin.

Yes, Houston is a great place to run - about three days out of the year
Everyone forgets how unGodly hot and humid it is here most of the time.
I do agree that we should not get too worked up about the times. As others have said, there are many variables and most of us don't go to the track often enough to be taking it that seriously. I learned a long time ago that if I'm only going to play golf a few times a year, there is no point in getting mad and throwing clubs.

We have some really good weather days here but the problem here is most of our tracks are 1/8 mile. The only close 1/4 mile facility is the Motorplex and Billy does not keep it open enough during the good weather months.
We're obviously NO WHERE NEAR that level but when say John Force or Joe Amato set a new track or national record in their cars the NHRA doesn't immediately preface it by saying "well that doesn't truly make him the fastest because we need to correct the last record holder's time to know for sure" LOL.
In that world, the time slip is the determining factor, period.

you are right we are a little state with short roads a lot of taking off practice. now at the salt flats you would surely win

Yes, I normally would agree with you on this 100 %. The original purpose of this challenge was to get everyone involved in legal drag racing and share experience with one another and yes, we all wanted to beat the numbers put up by Chevy.
This is for fun and on everyones honor so to speak. There are those of us who have never run down a track before and then there are the guys who have their NHRA license. Then of course there are guys like me for comic relief.... you never know how I am going down the track.
If we were playing by the normal rules then I would agree that the fastest time wins. Lets all remember this is for fun and I am taking everyone at their word. Ok Guys good luck it gets cooler very soon and I expect quicker times

Got my car in the 11.80's today! No further mods just a well prepped track this morning. I dipped into the 11.80's for two runs, my fastest one below. I cant believe this thing runs like this with 2:73 gears!
