That it was doing it's job very well.
With all the talk recently about Vararams I figured I better check mine out. The inside was nice and clean, I saw a dust speck or two, but that's it. My shop replaced my Green filter with this K&N and it seals up VERY nicely. As the pics below show, my foam tape was a a little loose and askew, but this K&N seals tight to the top so the foam tape doesn't matter.
Inside view of top portion.
The filter had stopped a ton of dirt, here's where I dropped it on the driveway:
The K&N filter seals great. Here's the part number if anyone wants to get one.

I installed it myself in about 30 minutes - the shroud cuts like butter. Would take 15 minutes next time.
Here's my write up.

OMG!! Vararam does seal?!?!?! No way!
Thanks for the PN, I bought mine 2nd hand and was thinking about replacing the filter element. BTW how deep or think is the K&N compared to the green filter? With the green filter it sits "flush" with the top half of the vararam, does the K&N sit in there the same? Also it looks like the K&N has an extended edge on each end, does that stick out of the sides?

Does anyone know if you can use that KN REcharger kit with the green filter? The cleaner and oil?
