How different is it {same,or more difficult}for a Tuner to "tune" a FI Vette with an Alky kit that uses a 50/50 mix compared to straight Meth?
Is it harder for Them?
Thanks,George

I have been researching this for about 2 years now and most tuners on the forum will say 100%. I personally fall in the middle I plan to run more like 80/20 to add some water to the mix for added safety and if I need to use my washer in a jam.
Bottom line is lots of guys are runing 100% with no problems and several 50/50 with no problems. You lose about 15-20hp by going 50/50 but it cools better than straight meth for added safety.

BJ,..I talked to several tuners and other performance shops, and most have all said that a 50/50 mix produces "more" power if it's tuned "correctley"!
It takes a little more time to tune a 50/50 mix,but the results are more power!

Really?? What do they say is making more power by doing a 50/50 mix? Is it because the charge is cooler because obviously the meth is going to burn where the water is not. Maybe you can run more timing?

I'm not too sure, but I believe it's because the water "does" cool the charge that much more!
The Meth really just "boost's" the octane.
Any others info would be helpfull!

Yes, the charge is cooled much better by the water than the methanol. The water turns to steam and carries away heat, the intake charge is denser, and of course the o in H2o is present. An oxygen bearing fuel, if you will.
Methanol is great on octane ~130 so it lends itself to dilution/mixture without severe degradation or lessening of it's anti-knock abilities.

Great explaination Charlie,thanks a million!!
Seems like You have had alot experiance with 50/50 mix tunes!
I might take You up on a tune when I get My Snow kit!

just use blue windshield washer fluid and be done with it. the water does the actual cooling as stated earlier the meth is mainly to keep the water from freezing plus it gives a boost in octane and cleans the combustion chamber.

Hey Charlie,
I know with each application you have different results; boost, engine type, FI type, but what are your typical results using 50/50 mix reguarding hp and tq? Have you done any testing to the intake temps while using 50/50? Thanks for your help.
