Consumer Reports rates the "Drive System" in the 06 Corvette as "much worst than Average".
Does anyone know what they are talking about?
(It's not the engine or transmission)

Not CU, they do not know about anything good with most American cars. They love to downplay American cars and give great reports about imports. Just a bunch of letover hippies working there!
My favorite consumer reports story is that they rated the 1983 Corvette as "much worse than average" ... pretty interesting considering there were _no_ 1983 Corvettes (released to the public, anyway). They have no credibility.
The thread that currently comes right after this one asks for the fastest 60' run WITHOUT BREAKING THE REAR. That might have something to do with the Consumer Reports rating. We've all read a lot about cracked rear cases and how to avoid them in this forum. I agree that CR rarely reaches the same conclusions as an enthusiast. But this is one case where their report matched what I read on the forum.
I subscribed to CR for a few years until it became obvious to me that they are biased toward Japanese cars in their ratings. It is rare that an American car gets praised. I cancelled my subscription a couple years ago when an American-made car (forget which one it was) received the highest ratings in all categories for the then current and previous model years and yet CR deemed it as one to avoid!
It is my understanding that their ratings are based primarily on surveys that they send out annually to their subscriber base. The surveys have the subscribers rate their cars in many categories, including repairs. If the Corvette rating is to be believed, I guess that means the subscribers that own Corvettes had problems. But then again, if the number of Corvette responses was low, one bad rating could skew the results.

Exactly! Throw out your copies of this rag and never buy another copy...you'll be glad you did!
If CR's beloved econoboxes were pushed as hard as our Corvettes, they'd have a few more problems too. I also think Corvette owners are more sensitive (i.e. 'vocal') to *any* issue their car might have, because they personally identify with the machine, unlike typical cars which might as well be made by Hamilton Beach and have a Bagel Slot in the top for all their owners care about them.
Anyway, I'm coming up on 20,000 miles on my daily driver 2006 Corvette, with only one minor issue (loose electrical coupling on the steering column, which I fixed myself thanks to the help on this forum). That's a better quality/repair history than many of the cars I've owned, including a Lexus and a few Hondas. I guess either I'm *extremely* fortunate, or CR is just showing their bias... again.
Cheers,
Kent
