Default Question about new breaks

My 05' vett Z51 needs new breaks the car has 34,000 miles on it. took the car to a corvette shop, I was thinking about getting ceramic break pads, becase of all the dust and squeeking they have always made. the man at the shop said that if i want the ceramics I would have to get new rotors, and that they would dig into the rotors i have now, and wont perform as well, didn't sound right to me. Hope you all can give me some advise!!!

Thanks, Seth

Find a brake shop that knows what they are talking instead of one that wants to sell you new rotors. Also, it's BRAKES, not breaks.

It is recommended to resurface the rotors when you replace pads for ones of a different composition. If your rotors have been worn too thin by now then you will need new ones.
As far as the performance... I installed some ceramics on my neighbour's C5 and he absolutely loves them. I dove the car and it seems to stop every bit as hard as my C6 does. I wouldn't worry about it at all, unless its a track car.

You have to tell them you don't want the gold plated pads...
I'd say $300 would be a fair price without cutting the rotors. Which begs the question of why are they cutting the rotors??? The factory service manual is very clear about not cutting the rotors unless they exceed a certain runout or the grooves are a certain depth. And the allowance for the groove is pretty large. Never let them cut the rotors just for general purpose...they have to have a reason. I'd look elsewhere for a brake job if that's their price and they cut the rotors regardless of need. Or learn to do it yourself (with some friends help) and do it for less than $100.
