The 3.15 axle is only for the A6 cars.
The M6 cars get a different set of ratio's and also a transmission cooler.

2.73 is a performance gear in 2008 for an A6 Z51. Was the 3.15 offered in 2005 with the A4?

yes the 315 gear was stock as part of the z51 package in 05 a4 z51 also no automatics get a special trans cooler, with the z51 package or oil cooler, they get the normal trans cooler that all automatics have and no oil cooler. gm did some trickery in there advertisements

08 Brochure gear ratios
Reading from the 08 brochure options
2.73 performance axle with paddle shift is available.
2.73 also comes standard in the Z 51 package with the other stuff.
I assume the standard ratio with auto is still the 2.56 same as 07, but I couldn't find it in the brochure.

Not true. The 2.56 gears are standard and 2.73s are optional (as part of the Z51 package or also as a
freestanding option).

If its a manual tranny you're considering its worth getting the Z51 just for the close ratio gear box IMO. Much better performance over the standard gear box in the first three gears.

The ratios aren't really closer (measured as a percent change between gears), but the gearing is shorter and that was a factor in my decision too.

Guy's I have 07 C6 A6 Z51 and I just installed an exhaust and the rear shows a 2:56 gear, not a 3:15. so how can we be sure the Z51 has as far as gears.
