I have heard that LS7 motors will pull timing after they reach 200 degrees operating temp....is this true and if so do LS3 motors also pull timing after reaching 200 degrees. thanks for the imput.

LS2, LS3 and LS7 motors all pull timing after a certain temperature but the amount of timing it pulls as well as at what temperature can be modified in your tune.
Here's an example from HP Tuners showing how the timing gets pulled on my 07 once the ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) surpasses 230 degrees:

It's not only cooling you need to worry about. That can essentially be handled with a 160stat. IAT (intake) temps are also critical and timing starts to be pulled at a much lower temperature. Even with a front feed air system like I have (Car runs IAT at ambient as long as it's moving) you'll stil see timing pull as low as 86 degrees unless you adjust everythkng to the right with HP tuners....

Volume of air... You could Zero out the table but you'd run the risk of causing severe detonation damage in a high temp condition...The timing is pulled for a reason. You can step the whole chart to the right a few degree columns as I have with no apparent downside, but keep in mind, my car runs very cool from an intake perspective..

Do you have any idea what average IAT temps are sitting at a stop (especially at the dragstrip)after having warmed up to normal temp. So you basically have it padded so it wont start pulling timing until IAT temps get over 100' (or however high you set it to)

That's pretty hard to figure. I have a cool air box built around my intake, fed by a grill mounted Vette-Air, so i'm ingesting outside air all the time.. You need to be able to monitor IAT temps. I have a Scangauge mounted and have that info up on the sreeen all the time.
IAT's can easily rise 20-30 degrees over ambient when sitting in traffic. I recently put a wrap of Koolmat insulation between my Air bridge and Radiator/cooling hoses, and I only get about a 10 degree rise now..Control the heat for best performance..

Yes, I do....Sitting at a light the IAT's go up as you would suspect from the engine bay heatsoaking a little. They start to drop immediately and usually hit ambient within 20seconds, once the car gets moving again and are always at ambient on the highway no matter what the temperature...

I've thought about buying one since I've seen it out. It makes more and more sense to me to do so if I really want to get my et's as low as possible. Unfortunately my mod money is about all used up for a couple months after the headers and cam I just picked up.

Based on the charts provided previously I assume it would, but my car never gets that hot. It stabilizes at about 182 on the road, and doesn't get above 200 sitting at a light. 160Stat and a fan re-tune handles that part of it (as I mentioned before).
BTW an inexpensive Scangauge is pretty handy for reporting all that information. I have one in each of my cars..

I can't see the chart at work so I missed it. I don't know if my car has ever seen coolant temps that high. If you look at the TM thread in this section I state that I'm no expert but 185' was my understanding, although I've been wrong before. Subfloor...
edit. perhaps the LS7 is different due to the thin side walls of the block??

it's 100 degrees daily in texas... if i'm crusing with the ac on i sit around 194. at a light it can get as high as 212 degree coolant temps. oil ranges from 199 to 226 and i've got the Z51 6MT.
