Default Center Console Heat??

I just got an 07 LMB coupe and noticed that after driving it for 20 min or so, the center console heats up and forget about having a cold drink for long. Is this a normal issue with the car, possibly heating up because of the exhaust system? Thanks!!!!

Good luck with it is all I know to say. I have LG's tunnel plate along with 5 layers of dynamat extreme and it still gets ridiculously hot.

Thanks.....I was just wondering if this was a common problem w/ all the C6s, not that it is a huge issue

This worked a lot better than the plate. Says C5, but it fits the C6 the same.

Get an Elite ceramic tunnel plate with the thermo add on.

Yep, it's quite warm in the console area. I'm gonna check out the solutions offered here. Could be my next mod.

Yes it is common. The same thing happened on the C5. Putting a tunnel plate or insulation helps.

When I did my headers. I made a heat sheild out of heating duct sheet metal. A piece 50 by 10 inches fold the sides 1 inch on each. so it looks like this from the end l_____l . Make it so it fits in the tunnel and sits about 1/2 inch from each side. Bottom side up and fasten it directly to the tunnel plate with a pop rivet gun. with 3/8-or 7/16 thick alum spacers about 8 of them. Spacers go between it and the tunnel. 3 down each side then 2 in the middle for support. Don't worry about hitting, nothing above it but the drive tube. Keeps the radiant heat from the tunnel plate!
Helps a lot!

What? First off how the heck did you get 5 layers to fit propperly? Secondly, 5 layers and it's still gets hot?

I've got the Elite tunnel plate, a layer of extream dynamat and then a layer of foil-foam-foil.

I had my car audio shop to do it. He put as much as he could there. I can't believe how hot it gets. It's just unbelievable. Of course it's not as bad in the winter but in the summer it's ridiculous.

But 5 layers?? I don't understand how it fits. You must have spent at least $1000 in just dynamat!

I don't understand how it's still hot.

Yep, 5 layers. I saw it with my own eyes. I guess nothing will totally knock it out with 105 degree summers here in North Carolina. I can't put chewing gum or candy of any sort in the console area or cupholder. It WILL melt everytime.

Could you just use the old plate as a heat shield ? put the tunnel plate on except for ten or twelve screws... get that number of longer screws... install the old plate under the new plate with some washers to space it out...

when I first got my c6 I put a digital thermo in the console after I wiped out my Ipod that I had left in it. It read 178 and climbing! so I had my audio shop put in heat blankets and I put in an elite thermo plate. the temp is down to 120 but still too high for the Ipod or anything else that is electronic on the bright side my ac doesnt strain anymore.

Are you guys with the tunnel heat problem/s all running headers or does this problem still exist with stock exhaust?

I'll have to measure the temps in my console next year.
Tunnel plate, one layer dynamat and foil-foam-foil works well for me...
