Running 17" ZR1 wheels out back with MT ET Street Radials. I think they are 295 45 17. Would buying some GTO spares and using M&H skinny radials on them be worth it at the the track? I think the whole setup would cost like $500 to run skinnies. I know the GTO spares fit best on C5's but for C6's it has minor difference on them but can be made to fit. Question is would spending $500 be worth it to save some weight or any other advatages at the track? Let me know what you think.
It depends on how much drag racing you do... you will probably save 30-50 lb.. and run .020 - .030 quicker if its just a FAST ET your looking for yes.. if you are bracket racing it don't matter just dial your car accordingly... unless you are racing a heads up class i.e. 11.50 and have to run THAT # if you need the extra ET go for the skinnies.. but if you only race 3-4 times a yr its not worth it.... IMHO
no bracket racing...i am trying to get down the track as fast as possible with the quickest time...once my track opens back up i will go about 2 times a month...so you mean .02-.03 or .2-.3? may not be worth it for a few hundredths of second...it will be for a few tenths

I've seen as little as .08 reduction in ET and as much a .18 with almost a full 1mph in added trap speed in some cases but never a full 3/10ths reduction unless the wheels they were replacing were some seriously heavy (and LARGE) aftermarket wheels and tires.
They are are a worthy mod for some people but they do come with their own set of sacrifices, one of those sacrifices being cost.
Dont do it...spares weigh a LOT. It isn't the same as replacing with a true skinny aluminum wheel.
That's not entirely true. Most spares do weigh more because they are steel but the spares in question here are from the 2004-2006 GTO and they are aluminum and weigh the same or even less than the CCW rims. Only problem is they're not a direct bolt on like the (properly sized) CCWs can be and some find the look to be a little funky.
How do I know this? I own a set of both, I actually have the GTO spares (without tires on them) sitting right behind me as I type this.
who else makes a skinny for a C6 besides CCW that are priced fair?
You can try Bogart and Holeshot but I have yet to see anyone successfully using them on a C6 without also going to smaller brakes.
CCWs are still the best combination of fit, price, quality and appearance for these cars in my opinion.

just enlarge the hole for the hub ~1/8", no...will admit they "stick in", but w/ my black powder coated rears people have mistaken them for a drag pack
what kind of modifications did you have to do to the gto spares to get them to work? any problems with the different bolt patter?

Yes the center hole/hub area has to be opened up a bit and the bolt pattern is not an exact fit, the C5/C6 is 5x4.75 and the GTO spares are 5x120mm (which is like 5x4.72), but close enough I guess. They will not clear the calipers on Z51/later F55 cars either.
