Default 1.00 g? Possible?

Good morning!

A quick scenario and a request for responses, please.

Was taking a quick leaf peep trip with my Mom yesterday. Driving my 2009 convertible with top down. It's auto, with Z51. Purposely took a back road over the mountains. It's a two lane highway...very limited traffic at most times...didn't see a single car yesterday. Have driven the road many times so I am familiar with it.

Here's the scenario: Came upon a "S" curve that is slighly uphill at the end. Entered it at 40 or so and accelerated through it. It IS a tight "S", for the record.

Probably was 55 or so coming out and when I began to exit took a quick glance at the g meter. Swear it read 1.00!!!

Here's the question: It didn't feel like 1.00, no tires protesting, very stable, and with no complaints from Mom is it possible that I hit the magic 1.00?

I do check the g meter w/ some regularity but didn't know 'til today that it has a record feature. Previous PR's were in the .73-.80 range when noted.

If I did hit 1.00 I am amazed and even more impressed with this one, my fifth Corvette.

Thanks folks...look forward to your replies.

Peace, out.

PS:

Will be checking the scenario again Friday morning to confirm the 1.00 or my hallucination.

1g would be a hell of a turn and you would certainly know you were doing it

It's more than possible though to accomplish.

That's kinda my thinking, Floyd.

It didn't feel that strong...if "strong" is the best word.

Thanks!

Peace, out.

I've seen 1.1 on my old 05 car that had the selectride. That was during a banked entrance ramp to a highway that I go on everyday! It will do it, I believe you can generate more g's at higher speeds in the vette.

1.14 is my record. But remember the g-rating is on a skid pad. I could never attain that a full 360 degrees. But a on new road and a 90 degree corner yes you can do it.

yea, I hit a SHARP curve the other day, and was doing 95mph or so (did NOT realize I was going that fast, and immediately slowed down...)

Still, I was pretty amazed that the car made the turn without much complaining. I don't even have the z51 package. I've taken that turn thousands of times in other sports cars I've owned, and don't think I've ever been going more than 80...Who knows.

Still, this car handles way better than you realize.

The best I've down without wiping out is 0.88g and I felt like I was gonna get thrown out of the window. There are dudes here who claim to have done more then 1g, hats off to them because I can't even hit 0.90g without wiping out.

Those G readings are pretty useless; I'd focus on watching the road instead if I were you... I'll tell you why: you can create rapid transients by just flicking the steering wheel from left to right that will go WELL BEYOND 1G. Also, on a banked turn you can pull well over 1G without stressing the tires; my guess is the road you were in was slightly banked. If you were driving around a corner on a level road and still on the factory run tires you'd be sliding before it hit 1G. With better tires you can go slightly over 1G; the C5 Z06 was supposed to do 1.03 from the factory; you can tell you're at the limit when that happens because the tires howl and the car feels on edge and about to slide.

On stock tires, non-super car at that I see .94-.98 regulary in autocross. And you don't have to watch the g-meter. You can recall your highest G reading before you shut off the car. Remember the g-rating is done on a skid pad and is the highest maintain turn thru 360 degrees. It is very easy to exceed that in a 90 degree corner and not slide at all.

I have seen a 1.06 and 1.08 on a banked entrance ramp
(Exit 70N on I-95) heading home. You can see my ride below.

I think it is the Mode button, hold it down for approx 5 sec's and it will recall the highest g achieved. Only good for while the car was turned on. If not the mode then its the page button. I always have to play with it myself.

You might want to re-phrase that.

I hit 1.06 and 1.08 on the banked entrance ramp heading home from the dog track. Exit 70N on I-95 is a tight circle type entrance ramp. Yes, Your face is fighting to stay straight when going thru the ramp but they are achievable.

Sorry, I posted twice

I did a .98 once - road condition and bank play a big factor in your car's grip. My 'vert has the Z51 with stock tires. I've also begun to lose directional control with a .78 on a local curve near my house. I cannot get more on that particular curve with several tries.
