Just did a cam on my 05 and came across an odd issue i've not heard of on here yet. Torqued the balancer to 240 as recommended to initially seat it but the crank snount is about 1/8" away from being level with the balancer. Is this normal and if not what should be done to get it properly seated?

that just seems so effed up. It cam loose about 100mi. after the cam but caught it very early but was thinking this was the issue. Should I pin it or will some blue loctite do the job?

Replace the balancer/bolt/washer with the newer style that GM has. The original part numbers for an 05 have been discontinued because they were the ones that failed. I had the same issue when I had a cam installed on my 05. No problems since the replacements were installed.
think gm will cover the balancer bolt and washer for me even though the car is apart at home? Im hoping so since it would be cheaper for them this way instead of me putting the car back together then having them do the whole job again.

Maybe but it's like 5 bucks if you're worried about it.
Did you put the radiator and fan shroud back in yet? If not pin the thing and be done with it. Not having a key is the one of my favorite things to gripe about on these motors. I lost 2 balancers doing everything right, I guess I just shift too fast. After #2 I pinned it and never again. Much less worry.
is there an aftermarket pin kit that was can use ?
Yes, I've got both versions... a verticle pin and the more common horizontal pin. If you know somebody that installed a blower, you can borrow their insert and drill bit and go find the steel pin at a hardware store.
