I have a Honker and just cleaned and re-oiled the filter for the first time. The instructions say not to over oil it which certainly makes sense but it really does not give any detail on how much is just right.
I sprayed both sides of the filter and just enough to change the colour from the dry light green colour to a darker green colour. I went over the entire filter area one time on each side. Does that sound right, too much, too little?

Thats about right... Not too much... Hold it up to the light to ensure that there are no clogged areas of the filter...
I try to time my filter cleaning/oiling so the oiled filter can sit for 24 hrs or so. This lets the solvents that thin the oil enough to spray evaporate so there is less chance the oil will migrate.
I also turn the filter to the oil evenly coats the filter media..
