I have a convertible. I would love to run on the track - both drag racing and road racing, but am not willing to butcher my car to add a roll cage so that severely limits my options.
My random thoughts came just now while watching the GatorNationals on ESPN.
How come a motorcycle rider gets to race with no protection save his leathers, boots and helmet and cars have to have roll bars/cages, fire extinguishers and a host of other safety gear? It really defies logic.
My suggestion would be drag racing your car is legal for 13.99.Your car would be competitive in a bracket race format.Don't let the ET numbers fool you slower cars are very competitive.Even in NHRA Stock Classes Ive seen guys run low horsepower versions of performance cars such as 307 powerglide 1969 camaro and 1968 300 horsepower 327 Corvette. After all its just my opinion I think these cars are made to be raced so why not get out and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah there is zero logic. Its purley cash based. The NHRA makes rules so that tracks have to adibe by them and they make money. Logic isnt a factor for them but money sure as hell is.
or have 3200lbs land on you while your strapped in
No one is saying - least of all me - that one should not have safety gear. Just wondering why it is mandated for a car and not a motorcycle (except for the obvious reason)....
I think you should go to the NHRA and tell them to change THEIR rules, how about your trapped inside a 3000 lbs car, not on top of a 500lbs cycle and when you fall of your body slows faster than the bike, leaving you to slide until you stop' instead of hitting a wall at at 150 in a 3000lbs car, you didnt do well in physics class did you?

Cause hitting a wall with your bare body is so much better than hitting it in a car.
Ive crashed at 40-50 on a bike and crashed at 40-50 in a car. I realize its not 130 but I was much more worse for the wear after the bike crash (couldnt walk for two weeks). Bikes are WAY more dangerous than cars regardless of saftey equipment.
