Default Speedo Failure

Anybody have a speedo fail to "0", just to return some seconds later? Happened three times on me. ALWAYS turns on again downshifting to THIRD! (WTF?) The HUD, speedometer and OBDII output (see below datalog) all fail simultaneously. Note on the graph the erratic response after the speedo restarts.

I have this same problem but only at WOT. Its freakin crazy. The reader will also not pick it up. Im not sure if it has something to do with the mods like the car is speeding up so fast it cant read it or what. I hope to find a fix for it soon.

Im very familuar with the C5 serial data buss but have yet to mess with the C6 serial data CAN Buss.
I bet ya it has something to do with that buss. On the C5, the buss can short out and cause all sorts of weird sensor and IPC issues.

Just something to consider. I too have a C6 and sooner or later, Im going to have an issue thats going to cause me to have to dig DEEP into the service manual just like I did in my 98 Coupe and figure out what the CAN Buss is doing.

No major issues so far! (KNOCK ON WOOD!! )

Have you found an answer?

I have the same Speedo problem with my 08 Z51. It happens on track as I crest a hill at about 120 in third. I'm in Competition mode. My car has the telescoping and tilt steering wheel. I'm also receiving the service active handling DIC message but have been unable to replicate it on the street. I've read the issues with this message and the investigations going on but am hesitant to bring it into the dealer because of my inability to replicate it on the street.

Any thoughts or wisdom?

Actually only at the track and at WOT when I pass the stripe it is always at zero as I slow down it begins to register..... must be the converter

The speedo works fine driving around town & etc..... go figure

Mine does the same thing at the track

Note that it does that, but yet in HP tuners the scanner logs it just fine on mine though?

Ah yes the vehicle speed sensor. Yup it is fine! I am wondering if there is something missing in HP tuners that would fix the problem. But it only happens at the track so until it affects my everyday driving I'll leave well enough alone.

Same here. Bugged me a little at first because I like to see where I am at going through the traps ha. I checked my speed sensor too and everything was good.

Ive also heard the speed sensor thing. But if that was broken wouldnt the speedo not work all the time? Im pretty dang sure if it was broke it would be broke all the time not just when you step on the gas.

Absoutely correct, there were no codes but I still had to check to see if it was loose or the connector was caught in something.

Yeah I checked mine too and there were no problems either. I have no clue why it doesnt work. Ive asked countless people and no one can seem to diagnose it.

Converter gremlins .......... Actually there must be something that we all are missing as I know of several others with the same problem.
There may be something which needs to be changed that the tuning programs can not change.

FWIW, my car seems to always (when it does occur) to do it upshifting on certain roads (maybe the same bumps in road)???

Haven't checked the sensor or cable as I can't get to it.

Could possibly be a bad ground. Check and make sure your battery terminals are TIGHT.

Any new information on this problem? I've had the issue for several years and was hoping that eventually someone would figure it out and post it. Anyone???
